It is being reported that Smith has resigned with the Wolves. This shows me that Smith is a man of his word. ------------------
Incredible , 600,000 dollar one year deal http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2000/1117/883953.html Report: Smith to stay with Wolves -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services It appears the Joe Smith saga will finally come to an end. In a bit of an unexpected move, it appears that the in-limbo forward will not be signing with the Pistons or Mavericks, as reports had suggested, but staying with the Timberwolves. A report in the Dallas Morning News on Friday says that Smith will re-sign with Minnesota, as early as Friday. Smith, declared a free agent by the NBA because of the Timberwolves' salary-cap violations committed on his behalf, can earn only the league minimum of $611,000 with the Wolves, and his future beyond this season will remain in doubt. League approval is still needed for Smith to sign this deal. Since he had lost rights for increased future earnings due to the illegal contract he and the team had agreed upon, it was expected he would look for as much money as possible. If he had chosen to sign with the Pistons or Mavericks, for example, he could have earned the $2.25 million allowed under a salary-cap exception. The Heat and Bulls could have paid him even more. However, there were indications recently that Smith was feeling guilty for discussing leaving the team. Smith did meet with both the Pistons and Mavericks earlier in the week. Smith, the top pick in the 1995 draft, averaged a career-low 9.9 points a game last season. Representatives of Smith are denying that Smith has agreed to re-sign with Minnesota. Timberwolves spokesman Kent Wipf said Friday that "we have nothing to announce at this time." ------------------ Would you like to join the signature of the month club?
