As he told The Athletic Wisconsin after the game, Antetokounmpo circled that game on his calendar because rarely-used Grizzlies center Bruno Caboclo and Brazil beat Antetokounmpo and Greece over the summer and then talked trash.

“Every time I saw him, I remembered the Brazil game,” Antetokounmpo said. “If you’re a real competitor, it brings the heart out of you. And (Caboclo) knew it, too.”

Due to Antetokounmpo’s reaction and what was said to Caboelo after the dunk – “On your ****ing head!” – everyone will now remember the Grizzlies game.

Do you understand what beef is? To me it just looks like he slammed on him and talked a little trash. I highly doubt he thinks about Bruno at all.

I apologise dude. If this 7-7 or 7-9 wingspan player is such a competitor why not game plan for him to be successful? Greece is better than some NBA teams I believe. So Caboclo should be a dominating force in the league.

Dude specifically, marked out this game on the schedule, to target a fringe NBA player. Not only does that constituent said beef. Its likely the biggest you have in the NBA now days.

The NBA has suspended its season. The latest projections have the league returning in June, but there is no way of knowing how long the suspension of practices and games will last. With the near future uncertain, let’s take a look back on the 2019-20 season as we know it thus far.

The Bucks compiled the league’s best record (53-12) in 65 games, posted the best net rating (10.7) by a large margin and were the stingiest defense and fifth-most efficient offense before play was halted.

But it isn’t just about the numbers. There have been many moments for the NBA’s best team, so let’s take a look at the five best, listed in chronological order.

    Return of ‘Brooklyn Brook’
Oct. 24, 2019, vs. Rockets in Houston

The Bucks’ season opener should have ended with the last two NBA MVPs – James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo – going basket for basket in leading their respective teams to victory. Instead, with over 5 minutes remaining, Antetokounmpo, who had already recorded a triple-double (30 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists), picked up his sixth foul. The Bucks needed someone else to lead them to victory.

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni went with a small lineup to close out the game, so Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer put Brook Lopez, one of the league’s better 3-point shooting big men, on the block and ran the Bucks’ offense through the post.

Lopez rewarded him by scoring on 3 of 4 post touches and dishing out a hockey assist on Wesley Matthews’ 3-pointer in the Bucks’ 117-111 victory.

“Call him Brooklyn Brook,” Bucks guard Pat Connaughton said after the game. “People forget that was his bread and butter. He’s versatile. You guys saw it tonight.”

Lopez was an All-Star for the Nets in 2013 operating as a back-to-the-basket center.

In his first season in Milwaukee, Budenholzer rarely asked him to post up because he prioritized Lopez’s ability to space the floor. After the Bucks’ offense ground to a halt in the postseason, many questioned if Budenholzer’s offensive game plan was flexible enough to work against the best defenses.

In the first game of this season, Budenholzer showed off his offensive diversity, which is something that may have been lacking last season.

“I think to have him is a luxury,” Connaughton said of Lopez. “And for him to be able to produce at a time where we need him speaks monumentally to where his head is at mentally and how comfortable he is to produce when called upon.”

    ‘On your ****ing head’
Dec. 13, 2019, vs. Grizzlies in Memphis, Tenn.

In November and December, the Bucks rattled off an 18-game winning streak, the longest of any team this season and tied for 11th longest in NBA history.

    During the streak, they:
    • Won 10 of the 18 games by double digits.
    • Posted a margin of victory of 15.9 points per game.
    • Beat the Hornets by 41 and the Knicks by 44 in back-to-back games.
    • Beat the Clippers (with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George) by 28.
Despite all of those accomplishments, Antetokounmpo made the team’s 127-114 win over the Grizzlies, the 17th of those 18 wins, the most memorable. The Bucks were struggling: Jaren Jackson tossed in nine 3-pointers for a career-high 43 points to help the Grizzlies build a 10-point lead with 3 minutes left in the third quarter. Then, the Bucks took over and Antetokounmpo enacted some revenge.

Due to Antetokounmpo’s reaction and what was said to Caboclo after the dunk — “On your ****ing head!” — everyone will now remember the Grizzlies game.

    Crowning of a new king?
Dec. 19, 2019, vs. Lakers in Milwaukee

The Mavericks snapped the Bucks’ 18-game winning streak on Dec. 16. With no winning streak, a storyline was absent was from the Bucks’ meeting with the Lakers. But the game was still billed as an NBA Finals preview … and then the game was played.

The 111-104 result disguised how the Bucks controlled and dominated, as well as the double-digit lead they held for much of the fourth quarter.

Antetokounmpo was once again the highlight as he put up 34 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and hit a career-high five 3-pointers. After hitting No. 5, the league’s reigning MVP pulled out a new celebration.

The celebration was a reference to LeBron James’ nickname of King James. But was Antetokounmpo the new king? He denied putting a crown on his head after the game, but his intent was quite clear. And even if he wasn’t mocking James with the gesture, James and the Lakers didn’t care for it.

At least on that night, Antetokounmpo deserved the crown. He dominated and did so by knocking down jumpers, something his critics said he couldn’t do after the Raptors eliminated the Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals last season.

    Middleton is money
Jan. 28, 2020, vs. Wizards in Milwaukee

Fans often question if Khris Middleton is worthy of the five-year, $177 million extension he received last year.

Is he good enough to receive that max contract? Can he be the second offensive option to Antetokounmpo? Can he be a consistent All-Star?

No matter what he does, Middleton will always be under the microscope. But he came through when his team needed him the most.

With Antetokounmpo out for the night, Middleton hardly missed against the Wizards. It took him just 26 shots to score 51 points. He hit all 12 free throws and connected on 7 of 10 from behind the 3-point line.

After the game, his MVP teammate made sure the moment was commemorated and scribbled “51” on a sheet of paper for Middleton to replicate the iconic Wilt Chamberlain photo after he scored 100 points in a 1962 game.

“I think that people who understand the sport know how good he is,” Budenholzer said after the game.

The Middleton questions will linger until the Bucks win a championship, but his 51-point game and career-high numbers and efficiency in the 151-131 win will quiet the critics … for now.

    Regular-season retribution
Feb. 25, 2020, vs. Raptors in Toronto

Everyone knows how the Bucks season ended last season. Four straight losses to the Raptors, three of which occurred at Scotiabank Arena, which was a house of horrors for the Bucks.

On Feb. 25, the Bucks made their first trip to Toronto since the Raptors ended their season in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals. The players and coaches downplayed the significance, but the first half of the game suggested otherwise.

The Raptors took the Bucks out of their offensive rhythm and led by 12 in the second quarter, but then the Bucks’ two All-Stars stepped up.

Antetokounmpo and Middleton scored eight points in the final 3 minutes of the first half to close the second period on an 11-1 run. Then, when the Raptors rallied in the fourth quarter, they stepped up again.

    First, it was Middleton.

He knocked down two huge jumpers to push the Bucks’ lead away from danger.

    Then, Antetokounmpo shut the door.

His 3-pointer gave the Bucks a 10-point lead with 1 minute, 57 seconds remaining.

On the same floor where the Bucks couldn’t find a way to seal the deal in last year’s postseason, this time it was different in the 108-97 win. It was just a regular-season game, but the Bucks hope to experience the same feeling again in a future postseason series.
