    Peeved at Ron Paul
Some Galveston officials aren't too pleased with their Congressional representative, Ron Paul, R-Lake Jackson, for voting against the $22.8 billion disaster recovery aid package on Wednesday.

"That's sad. That's bad," said City manager Steve LeBlanc.

"I find it very distressing," said Councilwoman Karen Mahoney, who represents the West End of the island, where damage was extreme. "He's voting against aid for the region that he represents? I don't find that very representative."

Texas won't get all that money, since some is dedicated to Iowa flood victims and other disaster areas, but it could get more than half. As our story reported today, Paul did not return repeated calls and e-mails for comment, but the libertarian-leaning lawmaker often opposes legislation that involves spending.

Ron Paul is bad bad man!

He has no problem punching "his party" in the jaw!
He has no problem punching those whiny Fox News guys in the jaw!

He has no problem kicking his constituents in the groin!

Chuck Norris wears Ron Paul pajamas.

Do the people from his region not understand his political viewpoints? They're the ones who voted him in. Surely, you wouldn't want to vote someone in who ends up being a complete liar or hypocrite. Ron Paul is a super small government guy. That's what he believes in. That's what he has believed in for a very very long time.

how many of those people you think just voted for him because he was a republican and didn't know what he stood for. (not saying this is unique to republican voters)

They can know what he believes in and still expect him to make an exception for his own constituents.

Which would make him a hypocrite.

Why does everyone think hypocrisy is the biggest sin in the world? Besides, it's not his hypocrisy but the hypocrisy of his constituency which elected a libertarian and then stuck their hand out for government relief when the chips were down. His hypocrisy is embodied in his agreement to represent this constituency and then vote against the will of the people (I admittedly am making assumptions about what the majority of his constituency wants).

The only bill for Wed. on the Congressional website is the disaster tax relief bill for the hurricane, which Paul voted for.

He also co-sponsored a disaster tax relief bill.

Maybe there is another bill the Chronicle is reporting that is not on the House of Rep. website.

In case they got mixed up he did not vote for the Senate Bill because he is not a senator.

its tucked in a larger spending bill for the next year which may or may not be fair to ron paul the way the Chronicle is reporting it. i'm sure that will be his excuse

This doesn't surprise me at all, because anyone who either follows him, hears his responses, or knows his voting record should know that he isn't called Doctor No for no reason.

He's against most, if not all aid from big government.

The theory of libertarianism can be intellectually attractive in the abstract to many people till reality hits them over the head.

It is sort of like who needs health insurance till you have a health problem.

Look, many Paulies admire the doctor because he is a rare and weird political specie that actually value honesty and integrity. So, even though they may not be totally on-board with his libertarian views, this move would only serve to reaffirm their choice.

Double-edged sword of being a hardliner.

At some point humanity has to trump idealism, OK? We're looking at utter devastation through the fault of no one, and potentially thousands dead/missing. It is at extraordinary times like this that you let compassion supersede your small government ideals. This is what government *IS* for. Nobody's going to call you a hypocrite because your own constituency got flattened by a hurricane and you voted for aid to its victims. Why would any reasonable human being do that?

A little libertarianism is a good thing.

We cannot do away with government for things like infrastructure, but we could do without a lot of other things that government does (and poorly I might add).
