I was quite surprised he didn't pan out as a starter. Not that I expected him to become an ace. But now I'm even more surprised he's throwing 97, and will be shocked if he becomes a good late inning reliever.

Based on today's outcome, he needed to be throwing at least 98

He has given up 11 runs in 10.2 innings this year in relief with a 1.78 WHIP. It seems amazing, he is still just 26 years old.

Needs to become a bullpen guy. It's the best chance he has to make the big leagues.

Never liked the pick, but feel bad that he is struggling to even reach the heights of Bryan Bullington as one of the biggest #1 flops. Most #1 picks that flopped were picked 1st for signability, which isn't really the case with Appel.

Does Aiken make it before Appel? He probably does...

Not sure either one will "Make it" Aiken is currently 0-4 in 19ip in A ball. He has given up 9 runs, walked 17 and K'd 10. His Whip is like 1.83. Not quite tearing it up.

    Yikes.

Let's hope this current scouting staff is never is in position to pick a #1 overall pitcher again.

Rasmus and Valbuena both on their active rosters as of today. Unless they're playing us, I'll root for both of those guys.

We picked Appel over Kris Bryant. Let that sink in.

Well, the Cubs would have taken Appel too if they had been at 1-1. The scary thing is that I'm pretty sure that the Astros would not have taken Bryant even if they had been at 1-2 in that draft and Appel was off the board. They were starting to sway towards more contact-oriented bats which made them favor Moran.

And don't forget guys like Jeter, Trout, Sale, Yelich, and Votto who went not long after their round one picks in past drafts.

After a scorching start Jason Castro is back to being Jason Castro. .194/.316/.358.

We upgraded our catcher situation big time.

Based on how well the Twins pitchers have performed this year vs last they also think they have upgraded their catching situation big time.
