That's not even really true though. According to what was reported, Newton had won the job over Butler even before the injury. He wasn't "forced" into the line up due to injury, he won the job outright.

Misleading article title, but Pancakes probably has to do whatever he can to get web hits. God knows I get upset when I click on one accidentally.

Real Title: Texans Stating Unit set, but depth an offseason priority.
Subtitle: Brooks expected to eventually take over for Smith at LG.

Yep, Butler and Caldwell were disappointing from the get go.

I cringe everytime NFL network had him on....

And the nation could see pancakes as the "face" for Texans news.

I could see more changes on the oline. It was a joke Wade Smith was voted to the pro bowl he was not that good this year. It was sad watching the Pats NT throw him around like a rag doll. We could see a new RT next year as well I am not sure Newton will ever be a legit starting RT.

In the future it's entirely possible our lineup looks like:

    LT - Brown
    LG - Jones
    C - Myers
    RG - Brooks
    RT - First round pick

To me the first round pick this year is going to be a RT or a LB. The good thing is that we don't have crazy needs, so if a sure-fire all-star caliber player at another position like NT or S comes free then we could use our first round pick on that guy as well. That's how good franchises like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, NYG, and New England constantly stay ahead of the game while drafting late every year.

Anyone want Brisiel back (or stick with the kids who they got)? Could be released, although is coming off "major" ankle surgery.

    Right guard Mike Brisiel
Cap savings by cutting him: $2.82 million

Mike Brisiel played the last part of the year on an injured ankle that required major surgery at the conclusion of the season. He was signed to help the offensive line's transition to the zone-blocking scheme. But with the ZBS likely out, Brisiel becomes expendable, especially with top draft pick Tony Bergstrom and undrafted free agent Lucas Nix ready to jump in…at a significantly reduced rate.

yea lets fix the terrible o line that had 3 pro bowlers.

we all know what the problems are but instead of fixing them we give them contract extensions (kubiak, schaub) or never fire them (marciano).

If we can sign him to a reasonable contract I'm all for it.

really? you think the O-line is better in 2012 that it was in 2011?

I dont think Wade Smith should've been in the pro bowl this year.

Chris Myers was a probowl in the 2011 season and in the 2012 season.
Give me Brisiel and Winston over Newton and Jones every time.

Would jump at the chance to bring Brisiel back. That would be a nice, quick fix for our o-line.

I think we'll be okay with Newton and hopefully Rashad Butler back at RT. We were much worse at RT when Newton went out and Ryan Harris had to start, and Newton should only get better with experience.

Butler is a FA and I'm kind of doubting the Texans will bring him back.

Yeah, I don't see Butler being back.

As for Briesel, would love to get him back for a decent price

It doesn't hurt to keep improving the O-Line

I thought it wasn't anywhere near as good as 2011. Foster didn't have enough holes and Schaub didn't have enough time.

Then again maybe Foster and Schaub just sucked.

I can't imagine arguing that the 2012 line was as good as the 2011 line..particularly the right side.
