Haven't been to Oiishi in a few years... it has a good happy hour / great value, but the quality of sushi and taste is below par. I don't mind it, but I have a few buddies that are sushi snobs and would never step foot in there.
How come noone metions my restaurant? I manage Asian City in Humble, I am guessing most of you guys live downtown area. If you guys ever get the time to come down its a great local place.
OK, so a follow up to this thread. I've sampled a few different places lately. I highly recommend Sushi Wabi on Richmond and Weslayan right behind the Edwards cinema. They just opened. I felt like the prices were very good, regular prices in line with most places happy hour. More importantly, the quality was very high in my opinion. I still need to try Oishii.
The key is, go at lunch time and see where the Japanese business men eat. My dad use to work with a bunch of Japanese guys and he would go with them to many authentic places. I know where they are, but no idea what the names are. You need to decide if you want authentic sushi, or americanized. If you want some americanized sushi, try RA. I've only been there once or twice, but it was good and different. I also like Kata Robata and Blue Fish. Blue Fish happy hour/lunch sunday is a great price.
This is my go to place for cheap sushi, you can get full for 10 bucks, unlimited Miso soup and red bean dessert. Hokkaido Japanese Restaurant 9108 Bellaire Blvd Ste B Houston, TX 77036 Neighborhoods: Sharpstown, Chinatown (713) 988-8448
Wow this guy needs to calm down. Anyways new sushi joint in downtown, Uchi, hes the chef that was just on americas top chef or something. They have one in Austin. Its pretty good, just don't expect a lot of normal stuff.
Just went to Sushi Wabi for the first time as well. Sushi Wabi >> Oishi Great Sushi. Agreeable prices. Just a nicer restaurant overall. I'd expect Oishi to lose some of their crowd to Wabi over time.
