OK, so this guy is going to disregard photos and videos, and prove his theory by .... taking photos and videos? Essentially this boils town to one principle. This guy can't accept second-hand information.

This has less to do about science, physics, conspiracies, or anything else than it does human rationality.

Is there a word for someone who can't accept any information received second-hand? Unfortunately a Google search of this type of thinking results in a lot of pretentious atheist-type discussions instead of any practical discussion of psychology.

IMO, this guy could manage to convince himself that Big Foot is real, Paul McCartney is a fake, Elvis is alive, we live in The Matrix, etc and even if he probably ever did "prove" any of those things with his own hands, he would doubt that.

I think all mountains are taller than that, by definition.

Time zones are sort of like daylight saving time. A man-made concept/invention.

I haven't had a chance to watch the video but if the idea is the sun rotates across the disk of the earth it would need a shade otherwise we would never have true night just twilight since sun as an omni directional light source.

The vid is just 20 seconds of a spinning sun

What it is spinning around, we don’t know. I thought Earth was the center? But it’s probably flat, too, with a dark side, so presumably doesn’t need a shade

Man, on a side note, the Internet to the masses has been great for the spread of good info (at least from the educated side for factual science), unfortunately.... These loons out there get the masses of lesser educated/gullible??? people to believe stuff as fact or face value on a one time video or read through, and have this confirmation bias where they don't bother to look into the facts/sources further (even do their own research by just reading a bit more), it's just sad.

Like when I read a news article on research, I'll almost always go to pubmed or elsewhere to look at original docs just to make sure that they didn't skew it to be something it's not, hell Wikipedia can even be a great starting place for some people... But it's not perfect, and unless it's a topic you know a lot about you should always look at other outside sources.

I just wonder if flat earther people didn't take a basic science/physics course, or if they even know how the scientific process works, just a cluster ****. People, please go to school, you don't even need a BS to at least learn some basic science.

The flat Earth conspiracy is so ridiculous I'm sure about 99% of the people involved with it are just trolling.

Unfortunately I think these people legitimately believe it to be true. Birthers, moon landing was fake, JFK conspiracy, Area 51, on and on and on... not to mention the how many million believe in Noah and his magical zoo boat.

I'm not sure if this is accurate as I haven't seen it myself, but I've heard that if you are out in the middle of the ocean and it's glass flat you can see the Earth's curvature. It's an old sailer's tale sort of like 'red sky morning sailor take warning...' - certainly on a calm day you can see islands or ship masts come up over the horizon.

Here is a picture from a tall Navy ship mast showing the effect though I suspect this one may be enhanced a bit, but it gives you an idea of what it might look like.
