I didn't support that dumb signing. Smart franchises don't overpay for garbage like that. In general, free agency is one way to saddle yourself with bad assets (Brock, Jeff Allen) And they could have cut Brock. They only used that capspace to frontload DeAndre's contract. That second round pick looks like it's gonna be pretty high pick.
and how did AJ bouye get on a texans roster? He didn't create himself here. =) The fireable offense is not signing him.pay them, ric! =(
Bouye was just another drip from the bucket of lost potential for this team. It was funny to read all the posters on here against the offered contract to AJ. "Rick found him as a unfa, he can do it again" and stuff along those lines. Rick can barely hit on 3rd picks and below what made yall think he could will another all star corner out of nowhere again. When you strike gold like he did with Bouye, you keep that gold. Ricky just loves to let talent walk away.
He's our guy, we should have known how good he could be. And we had time to offer him a more team friendly contract. But nope
They did though, although too team friendly, he betted on himself for a big contract and got it. Ricky smits being too cheap early on.
So are we in the Fire Rick Smith thread or the Fire Bill O'Brien thread? I'm confused lol The Texans will probably be legit contenders next year with all the injured players returning.
Cutting Brock would have cost $24 million on your cap this year. The plan was to go after Romo. They needed the space. Romo ended up retiring and it was too late to do anything with Bouye. So, they put the money in their pocket to save for 2018. Now, they will have cap space, their QB of the future, and the ability to sign FAs.
Sounds like a great plan, Except over the last 12 years the current GM has proven he's not the one to execute bit.
One had nothing to do with the other. Any GM worth his salt franchise tags Bouye, at worst, and doesn't front-load Hopkins/other contracts. We sell draft picks and wave goodbye to Pro Bowl players.
I'll just leave this here in it's proper place. Let's hope Savage can get the ball out in under 1.5 seconds.
So our front office gives this... to a guy while he's in the concussion protocol... and this is what happens. No surprise, may end his career... And the guy who made that decision is going to fire the Head Coach.
You can be the greatest GM in the history of leagues, you can't predict injuries. You also can't have 53 starters on a roster.......just not possible.
Yes you can. You sign a guy with a concussion history to a new contract while he's still in the concussion protocol! Don't even need a medical degree to see how that might not work out in your favor. We had 1 starter level player on OL at the beginning of the season and 4 backup level players starting. On purpose. If you think that's quality GM'ing, enjoy the mediocrity.
Yep, should've been drafted. Quickest get-off the line of any TE I've seen. Just needed a year in an NFL weight program.
