Morey will be snapped up in a second if we let him go. McHale would be back to broadcasting if he was let go. But if Morey is going to squander a contender roster with McHale for the next 3 years, it's time for Morey to go too.
Sign Thibodeau to the coaching training staff ... if McFail fails, Thibodeau takes over. You don't fire Morey, that guy trades potato chips for superstars (in the making).
Bump. How much longer are people going to stop defending this guy? The best franchises in the NBA keep their teams together for a long period of time. Morey's strategy is completely change your team every season and it's not working. 2 losses to the Nuggets, a loss to the Nets? This is unacceptable. Morey needs to go.
Morey's given the team plenty of talent. They made the WCF last year. Now he needs to give them a coach.
If Morey is not going to FIRE McHale and continue to hold on to this puppet lap dog Mc****, then Morey may have to go No point in assembling all this talent only to see it wasted away by the most incompetent, clueless idiot coach in the NBA
Only mistake he made that I can think of is not going harder after re-signing Josh Smith. Been saying that from the beginning despite taking heat for it. Other than that, I don't really know what else Morey should have done differently. Brewer is not doing great now, but he did well last year. I used to blame Morey for not collecting 3 and D players around our stars, but they don't grow on trees and cost a lot more than they used to. You either get one or the other for role player money these days. Steve Novak or Tony Allen. Wesley Matthews gets freakin' $15M+!!!! Marcus Thornton was a great signing. Anyone who follows bball would know that though. I have not been convinced that midrange shots are so necessary. It's been discussed a lot, and nobody has shown that it actually opens anything else up. I don't think Morey is a genius. I don't think being a good GM requires you to be a genius. It helps when your trading partners are not that bright.
Morey is overrated and thinks he's smarter then he really is. McHale should be fired before Morey is but Morey's seat should be very hot if this season turns out to be a disaster. In fact if this season turns out to be a disaster I would be all for the house being cleaned out.
Coaching ... seem like the root of all evil... Business is what makes things happen. Root of all evil trades..... C.Brewer/McDaniels/ and 1nd round pick for Zack Randandolf. Fire Mchale and hire Jeff van gundy back and bring back defense.
Morey underates chemistry and puts too much emphasis on the 3 pointer. It seems like he does well with trades and atthe draft but at the same time, he doesn't even try to build a team to suit his philosophy. No point hoisting threes if you have poor shooters inAriza, Beverley, Brewer, Jones, Lawson and Harden.
- Ty Lawson - James Harden - Trevor Ariza - Terrence Jones/Deemo - Dwight Howard And you want this guy fired? Do you not understand what the job of a general manager entails? Our issue lies in health more than anything. Howard missing every other game is going to hurt us. There are just too many good centers out there that have way more value than a Dwight Howard that doesn't play half the games. You could also make arguments against the coaching, but we know that this group of players have a high chance for success. Just give them time to figure it out.
It's not Morey's job to make the players fit together with each other, its McHale's job to coach. Ergo McHale's job to get the team to play together to win games. Morey's done a great job getting players while working under the cap.
And then suffer dramatically on the offensive end? We need the team to buy into playing hard on both ends of the court. Injuries don't help though, with Howard in and out of the line up and Dmo not being the consistent defender/ contributor at PF it hurts our team a lot more than people see. Then you need to look at Lawson and his lack luster efforts so far. He should be very well aware that this is basically a contract year for him. If he doesn't play well enough for the team to resign him they may not pick up his team option. It's only 9 games into the regular season and a good amount of soured fans are calling for a complete rehaul of the team..
Leslie wants this system of running and gunning, shooting threes probably even more than Morey does. McHale is a puppet to Morey, but make no mistake, Morey is a puppet to Leslie. Leslie will never let him go and while Morey's moves are mostly good, the strategy of threes and lay-ups is just looking more silly by the day. Maybe McHale does not know any better and sticks with it since he's clueless, who knows...Firing Morey won't happen, that's all I know.
Let's face the facts. Morey changed team completely before because the franchise was rebulding. Last summer, he didn't do that complete change. Les will give the GM his chance to change his coach first before he axes the GM at the supposed end of a decade of dark tunnel. Anyway, when Morey hired McHale I thought it was for "tanking" purpose. Never knew he would last this long at the post and even got a renewal.
I understand the frustration. But Morey has given us great years. It's like some people have forgotten the Francis/Cat/Cato/Moochie/Mo T days. Fun in a way, but were never legit threats to worry the good teams. Morey has at least provided us the talent. And some good playoff runs.
Not Morey's fault this team has started out so poorly. It's all on McHale at this point. Firing Morey would be one of the biggest mistakes Les has ever made. McHale probably has exceeded his sell-by date, but is there an obvious upgrade out there right now? Thibs? Meh. Let's see where we are after 20 games or so. The team looks bad right now but they would be far from the first team to struggle after adding a significant new piece. If we're still hovering around .500 after 20 games I'll be more concerned. Nine games in, I'm not going to hit the panic button quite yet.
Morey is top 5 NBA GM, McHale makes sense as a players' coach, helped to attract talents, but his job is done now. Players need to take a bunch of responsibility too. They're not small kids that need to be motivated by coach to perform every game.
