[Feigen] Upon further review, MDA not giving up on Switching Defense

    This means to me that we are being sliced up by quick slips and weakside cuts, and close outs off help, but not ISOs off the switches. MDA seems to be saying communication is the horrible problem.

    (Of course, that assumes unfixable, low BBall IQ on complex switching schemes isn’t the problem.) sigh :(

    For comparison, .96 PPP defense on ISO is fine, although I still think that’s higher than last year. Compare that to our 1.16 overall PPP last year, and our 1.25+ on ISO. Still a safe idea that teams (other than GSW) can’t trade ISOs with us, but we are being sliced up, instead.​

    So, it’s a communication problem, blown assignments and bad tracking of cutters ... or for the Freedom of Movement conspiracy theorists, it would mean that now that Ariza and Luc can’t get away with holding cutters, our inability to cheat on defense is hurting us, much more than other teams

    Switching Defense is not working. It is too hard to fix ....

    Ennis is always first step slow and Melo is always final step slow. Everyone is attacking these 2 guys.

    Somewhat kinda good news... Means we don't have to rewrite the whole plan, just have to make the right adjustments. That's being optimistic though...

    We used to have to only worry about Harden getting beat on back door cuts and slips.

    Now we have like 3-4 guys to worry about.

    It depends on how good is the new defensive coach. I personally doubt it can be fixed.

    Last year there was a healthy Moute, who can play PF and SF.

    Once again, Melo, MCW, Ennis and Knight are all pitiful defenders.

    Primary reason is the beef. Melo, MCW and Ennis are not BEEF (defensive talents).

    This team really needs BEEF.

    It’s almost if 5 games with new players and tons of injuries slows down team chemistry and development.

    Agreed, play MCW less or not at all. Play Clark more to see if he can catch on in this system while Harden is out. Capela needs to protect the paint better by bringing better energy. Paul, Tucker and Gordon all need to step up defensively. Paul and Gordon need to be better decision makers on offense like they were last year. If we fix these things we should be 55+ win team but it will take maximum focus over the next couple of weeks to get where we want to get.

    If the team really wants to win the Championship this year, Harden, Paul and Gordon need the rest after all star break.

    50 wins is more likely.

    The Hamstring, now the Switch. This team needs a Defensive coach and figure it out. This isn't the same team. Run it back. We're getting Jimmy butler. Iso Melo is good. Wish we had Ariza. Tilman in financial trouble
