Exclusive: Houston Rockets star James Harden drops agent, now represented by his mother

This is awesome news. He will probably retire a Rocket. Doesnt need an experienced agent any time soon. His mom also gets to make some good money to take care of the family. This saves him money. Anyone who has ever had the most money in the family will feel me. Wise move by Harden. She also might have agreed to take less percentage than other agents would demand.

 

pretty sure he will still have lawyers to help they just won't get a real hefty cut.. prolly just a retainer

This is smart. He doesn’t really need an agent...he’s built his brand, has super max, a shoe deal, and a gummy beard. Keep the money in the family and leave room for an agent to do some actual work on Kid’s who need the help.

 

Locked in a deal for a couple of years with the rockets and adidas. This is probably to not share any money with hungey agents and instead give it to his mom. Im fine with that. For now

Good move, Harden will get the max anywhere he go so there's really no point in having an agent to negotiate for him.

 

Like Clutch pointed out, James is taking a risk. Perhaps it has to do with wanting to avoid taxes on gifts he gives to his mother by giving her a cut of the "action," I don't know, but if it were me, I'd want some top tier professionals looking over every deal before I signed on the dotted line. I wouldn't want my late mother looking over that stuff, and she sure as heck wouldn't have wanted to.

 

Also, fwiw, I know she has already been handling certain aspects of his for a while.

I never mentioned it because I didn’t know if I should but hardens mom is going through my girlfriends architect firm to build some huge basketball complex in Houston.

I’m sure he trusts his mom more than anybody in this world. I can understand that logic

 

The agent who was handling Harden's affairs quit last year to become GM of the Lakers

 

Unless they have a junior agent to help and it keeps Mom in the $$$$
