European leagues have no such rules. There is no collective bargaining agreement, so it is like MLB ... pretty much an open market

In fact, some player pay the teams for the privilege of being on the roster and/or playing.

LOL. name one. I'm sure u will not be able too. The only player currently playing for free in Euroleague is Kirilenko. But in this case, he just gives all his salary to charity, so this does not count :)

In Greece, players sometimes don't get paid.....now that is a minimum contract.

In 3rd league, right? Guys, give examples or stop talkin nonsense. No way any player would play for free in Euroleague. Yeah, sometimes they do not get salary for few months but only because clubs have financial problems.

There is no such thing as a Euroleague contract. Only contracts with the individual national leagues.

And yes, each national league has rules on what the minimum contract is.

Each individual league has minimum contract requirements. Euroleague does not oversee anything like that, as it is made up of teams from numerous leagues.

Yes, but it's because of the market not because of legal requirements. For example, what could be minimum salary of CEO of the bank? and what salary does he/she gets?

I will try to explain how it works in Euroleauge. It is a tournament of teams from various countries. The teams participate in their national championships aswell - barca and real in Spanish league, fenerbache and galatasaray in turkish league and etc. Moreover, in euroleague where are clubs from not so wealthy countries - Zalgiris from Lithuania, Prokom from Poland, Zagreb from croatia. Euroleague has nothing to do with the contracts between clubs and players. Yet the clubs mentioned above pay large salaries to the players but they have to do so in order to keep competetive. But players in the weakiest clubs in their national leagues (Lithuania, Poland, Croatia, Belgium) do not get high salaries. There are teams with budgets of about 100k$ or even less. There are players in age range from 14 to 18 on such teams in hope to grow an averahe player in that league (not an Euro star). The contract between player and club has only to maintain it's countries legal requirements (which is minimum salary) and Euroleague has nothing to do with that. I don't know about Spanish, Italian and some other big leagues, they might have some other restrictions, but in general it is how it works in Europe.

There is no such thing as a minimum contract per team. It goes by the national league. So there is a minimum contract amount for the Spanish League (ACB), but not for individual teams.

As far as I know, the minimum contract amount in the ACB is what would be equal to an amount of $69,300 if you used the current exchange rate (December 19, 2011) between the euro and the dollar (1 EUR = 1.29988 USD).

Now, if you want to know the lowest salary of any player on Barca or Real Madrid, then that is another issue. But there is no individual team minimum. But, on big, rich teams like that, all the players make way more than the league minimum.
