https://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/RPM Real Plus minus was released today Here is the top ten RK RPM WINS 1 Marc Gasol, 7.21 3.13 2 Nikola Jokic, 6.38 2.85 3 LeBron James, 5.95 3.41 4 Anthony Davis, 5.95 3.04 5 Paul George, 5.85 3.13 6 James Harden 5.81 2.36 7 Stephen Curry 5.74 2.44 8 Kyle Lowry, 5.44 3.31 9 Kyrie Irving, 5.07 2.58 10 Khris Middleton, 4.74 2.4
Interesting, for the Bucks, it’s Middleton and not Antetokounmpo. He’s really an underrated player. And clutch too.
Whoops, the MVP is #23 right now. And lulz at the current #1. Guess they’ll have to adjust the coefficients of their new wave formula again. At least it’s a whittle better than PER. ESPN really needs to put Hollinger’s antiquated drivers of efficiency to bed. My word what a bad stat that for the new NBA.
Man, Khris Middleton's ascendance into the upper echelon of NBA players is one of the more baffling things I've witnessed as a basketball fan. It's even more perplexing when you consider that I went to TAMU, and remember watching him play vividly.
Luka Doncic I thought would on the list, Doncic reminds me of Harden the way Doncic takes over late in Games, Alley oop pass to Deandre.
If Gasol ever decided he was going to take like 20-25 shots every game the Griz would be pretty scary.
My comment was more about PER. As for RPM, something is wrong with that formula if Giannis is #23 and Gasol is #1. They create the formulas by fiddling with key Constants based upon subjective opinion of what the outcome should be. These are not 100% Objective measures, more like 70% objective and 30% subjectivity built in via tweaking the numbers until the stars align -- pun intended.
Oh alright, but I mean you said it was a little better than PER, so I just I'd wanted to know what sort of issues you thought there were with RPM. I respect your opinion, so I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it.
Click the link ... he's only #28 in ORPM. It's the defensive numbers that launches him to #1 in the combined score.
I don't have an issue with it. I just don't care for invented formulas that are tweaked for subjective outcomes -- so I kinda categorize them all the same. I don't think they are needed. So, I don't use any of them.
Yeah, if they're messing with it until it comes close to what they perceive matching their "eye test", it's pretty ridiculous. Pseudo-stats.
So Stats Do Lie sometimes. Team Plus Minus matters more as this is a team sport. NBA.com had those stats 4-5 years ago where they measured the best 3 player, 4 player and 5 player combos.
ESPN pushing the 'white men are good at basketball' narrative by placing two unathletic (but cerebral!) white dudes as the best players in the league according to RPM
They still have it on Basketball Reference too. Different lineups and splits that calculate +/- per 100 possessions.
