ESPN: Knicks hoping Rondo will force a trade to NY, then hopes to sign max guy in '15

Would half the roster still be on the team if Rondo goes there?

 

So comical to read that. Gives me great joy to read the delusions of Knick fans and Knick media thinking that just because they're in NYC that all the free agents want to play there.

 

Only possible trade scenario would be Chandler and whatever future draft picks they can give up for Rondo and Vitor? Dunno what else could possibly make sense.

 

It is an advantage the Knicks have. They also have a huge money advantage, but it has not occurred to them to use money to bring in a good GM. It just amazes me that the Knicks didn't get Masai Ujiri. BTW, I think Rondo wouldn't be a good fit in NY. They need to get a star, at least one 3 and D wing, and a PG like Lin.

 

The team is really built for Chris Paul (with him lobbing dunks to Chandler and Melo playing the 4). Seeing as he's not coming to NY, I think Rondo could do a decent job of running an offense like that and playing defense. They'd definitely need a three and D player or two though.

 

I'm hoping Deron Williams force a trade to the Rockets..

 

Every day I am thankful that James Dolan is not the owner of the Rockets. Can you imagine what the management/ownership of franchise like San Antonio, OKC or Houston could do with the advantages the Knicks have?

 

Without the illegal defense rule, refs not calling defensive three seconds often enough, and defenses getting really good at 2.9 second defense, Rondo needs everyone else on his team to be able to shoot to be most effective on offense. If Chandler is there, Rondo won't be as useful offensively. If Chandler isn't there, Rondo would be effective offensively with Bargs at center, but then NY would be playing Bargs at center.

Rondo needs to go to a team like the Hawks with big men that can shoot.

 

Rondo would never.

 

The Knicks DID bring in a good GM several years ago when they hired Donnie Walsh. The problem was, James Dolan didn't LISTEN to Walsh, who was well on his way to negotiating a Melo trade without giving up quite as many assets. Sadly, Dolan (who was listening to the advise of non-employee Isiah Thomas more than Walsh's advise) decided to take over final negotiations and ended up giving away more assets for Melo than he had to. It was this lack of trust/autonomy that likely eventually led to Walsh resigning his position with the Knicks.

 

And look at Donnie now.

With the help of Larry Bird has built a championship contender in Indy.

Knicks will forever be a mess under the guidance of James Dolan.

 

I think it's more of a myth. What big time free agents have flocked to the Knicks? Amare? Tyson Chandler? Who else? Melo forced a trade there so he could go home.

Houston has been far more successful than NYC getting free agents or just being a popular destination for players. Pippen chose Houston and Barkley resigned as a free agent for a discount. TMac wanted Houston as did D12. All of those names are as big or bigger then anything the Knocks have been able to attract.

What players want is the combination of money and a superstar partner to play with. That is what Houston has been able to offer. That is what has attracted big name players to Houston.

The Knicks had better start winning or other big name players are gonna wonder why Melo can't get the Knicks into the play-offs in the pathetic East.

 

You're absolutely deluding yourself if you don't think the Knicks - in the hands of competent management, which currently doesn't exist - are a top tier FA destination that probably only the Lakers or maybe Miami could compete with. Imagine them in the hands of Morey.

 

In order for a trade like this to work, you have to you know.....have something to offer in return. But keep shooting for the stars, Dolan.

Morey would have already been fired there. Management basically makes no difference so long as Dolan is owner.

 

The Knicks ownership have let their management or their own ineptitude prevent them from salary cap space. Melo, Amare, and Chandler are pretty big names brought to the Knicks by the NY rep. Amare is a medical miss-fire and probably not the wisest of moves using hindsight. Chandler and Melo should easily be the third best team in the East if they had any help and were healthy.
