    At-Bat Songs: Houston Astros

    Page 3

Think Roger Clemens is a little bit crazy? Check out how wound up some former Astros were about their at-bat music.

    # When Orlando Merced was in Houston, he once called up to the booth during a game and said, "I am about to bat. Do you have the new Creed song? I want to hear that. Bye."

    # During the Astrodome days, Derek Bell was at bat and the deejay played Anita Bell's "Ring my Bell," unaware that Bell absolutely hated the classic disco song. Bell came up to bat, hit into a double play and didn't return after the at bat. After the game, it was revealed that Bell pulled something in his back during the play. He blamed the deejay for the injury. The deejay's response? "All I did was play a song."

    # One game, Jose Lima gave the deejay a copy of his personal CD and asked for a certain track to be played. Accidentally, the wrong track was played when Lima came up to bat. During the at bat, Lima stepped out of the box, looked up to the booth and began shaking his fist at the deejay out of frustration. Fortunately, Lima ended up getting a single. In his next two at bats, however, the right track was used and Lima struck out twice.

    Now that's crazy.

    AT-BAT MUSIC: HOUSTON ASTROS

    Player Song Artist

OF Craig Biggio "Nookie" Limp Bizkit
Also uses an assortment of U2 songs.

SS Adam Everett An Assortment of Hip Hop and Korn songs
Everett has never requested anything, so the music guys chose a lot of hip hop and some rock for him. Last year, former Astro Geoff Blum's wife made a comment that she thought their musical selections for Everett were absurd. She felt Adam Everett was the most "walk the straight and narrow" guy and was the opposite of anyone resembling Hip Hop Music.

OF Carlos Beltran An assortment of popular rap
New to the squad, Beltran hasn't requested anything yet.

OF Lance Berkman Songs by Godsmack, P.O.D. and Newsboys
Berkman loved his music, but suggested the music people throw in some hits from Christian rock band, The Newsboys.

1B Jeff Bagwell Lots of Metallica
For years, Bagwell would come out to a rotation of Metallica hits. A few years back, former Astro Daryle Ward told the music guys to play some rap for Bagwell. Surprisingly, he liked it.

    2B Jeff Kent Anything up-beat

3B Morgan Ensberg "Ch-Check it Out" The Beastie Boys
Ensberg mixes it up all the time. But after thinking his recent choices were a bit stale, he approached the music guys and said, "We need something new; I'm not feeling it. I want some new rap like the Beastie Boys' new stuff." With the trio's newest single escorting him to the plate, Ensberg hit three home runs in his next three games.

RHP Roger Clemens "Faint" Linkin Park
Clemens is quite superstitious. The catch to his intro music is that the deejay is instructed to start the song exactly when he crosses the foul line as the Astros take the field. Roger also demands that only 1:45 of the song be used.

My favorite was Wagner's entrance! I liked how he would work the crowd. walking then jogging then sprinting to the music.

We went to one of the Astros-Padres game last month, and I started laughing when I think it was Ausmus came up. His song was that rap song from the Chris Rock movie "Down to Earth", My mind on my money and my money on my mind......

I guess that's how it goes.

everytime i hear that usher song, i think of dotel.

my son hums the tune all the time...and tells me he wishes dotel were still around so they'd still play it at games. i'm just thankful he can't understand the lyrics!

Are the Astro's the only team that does this? Nope.

Why they didn't include "The Ramones" for Biggio is absurd... "Hey Ho Let's go."?
