That doesn't mean they wouldn't dump him. I wonder if they would do an Anderson/Melo swap. It only adds a year to the deal at a slightly lower salary.

If Melo declines his player option, a buyout will 100% happen. Of course, Melo has yet to turn down money.

Feigen (remember most of his stuff is direct from Rockets)

Seems like Melo is likely at this point.

I hope we are building the Olympic team.

    CP3
    Harden
    George
    Melo
    Capela

Are you kidding that it's even a possibility?! Even if it weren't to happen, that there's a chance....

If MDA is okay with Melo then all for it.

CP3 will keep him in check

Melo is a great catch and shoot player. He will compliment Cp3, a 6'9 reddick.

Harden will eventually get traded for Lebron once Melo signs

Posted this in the wrong thread:

If we can give Melo the full MLE @ total $26m over 3years with a player option in the 3rd year which would allow him to opt out and we re-sign him with full bird rights if we so choose. Hopefully, no promise of an extension from us.

Melo has $53m over 2 years remaining. The Knicks could get a $17m discount on those 2 years (equal to what we would sign him to) and Melo wouldn't lose a dime. And we are then getting Melo at a deal that's worth a bit less than his value.

What's likely to happen though is Knicks say: look, just decline your final year option worth $27m. So Melo ends up giving up $27m from Knicks for 2nd year, and we give him $17m for those 2 years and a very valuable player option for a 3rd year. He loses $10m and gains a player option of roughly $10m when he's 35 years old. Not a bad deal, and I know this is getting tiresome to hear, but with tax differences between NY and Houston, he is probably losing nothing in this scenario too. Knicks are off the hook from his salary after 1 season. Feels like a good scenario for all.

However, there's a risk. There are teams that would sign Melo to more than the MLE right now. He could probably get $15m/per from some team, so if the Knicks are willing to agree to a buyout, he would have to be willing to leave significant money on the table to come to Houston.

    Capela/Nene/Anderson
    Melo/Anderson
    Ariza/Melo/Troy
    Harden/Gordon
    Paul/Harden

Holy cow that team can score. If they buy into a mindset where all are willing to move off the ball and set picks for each other and dramatically reduce iso plays, we could be an all time great scoring team with MDA at the helm. Unfortunately, we would be a terrible transition team and a poor defensive team. But man, that team could be the best scoring team ever seen - we were already 10th all time.

True that Warriors would be miles ahead of us defensively - but you could make the case that we are miles ahead offensively. Man, we are bringing Anderson and Gordon off the bench in this scenario. Now that's what I call an UPPED risk profile lol.

    Offensively:
Harden, Melo, Paul, Gordon, Anderson x MDA
    vs
Durant, Curry, Klay, Iggy?, Green? x Kerr

As much as I hate Melo, I truly wonder if this final roster is better than whatever we can conjure up after acquiring George. Can Melo be motivated to care about winning, get in NBA shape and become a deadly 3rd scorer?
