Random question. Here's the scenario: You are the last one to get on a crowded elevator, which means you are standing right in front of the door with everyone behind you. It is so crowded that you can't move at all. Everyone on the elevator is going to the lobby. There is a lady directly behind you. When the elevator arrives at the lobby, you: a) step to the side, possibly bumping the person next to you, and let the lady behind you get off first or 2) quickly step off the elevator to get out of everyone's way, since you are right in front of the door Assuming you are a gentleman (you know what they say about assuming...), what do you do?
It is 2014 I am getting off first. Holding up an entire elevator doesn't make you a gentleman. She can wait half a second. I will hold doors, walk on the street side of the sidewalk and pay for dinner but this just seems silly to me.
When that happens, I quickly step off and to the side, and hold the elevator open for everyone else. Or at least until the women have exited.
LOL. Nice. I get off first and keep going. It would NOT be gentleman-like if I was on the right or left of an elevator that is not full, and I was to get off before ladies. The elevator in your case is FULL and with them exiting, the sensors will stop the doors from closing. Even if the sensors aren't working, the peeps on the right and left should do the holding.
I think you are fine in either scenario. Getting off fast in that situation isn't rude. I almost always let women off first
Official etiquette says that getting into and out of elevators, cars, or other possibly crowded areas where it would be more uncomfortable for the lady to exit first, the gentleman may exit first especially if he's in the way. In the case of cars/cabs men should always get out first which helps prevent the woman from flashing other passengers.
^ EXACTLY! I now noticed something else that is a flaw in your question: but then -_- impossibru???? How can you step to the side that it is so crowded? You still GET OFF FIRST and then hold the door for everyone. You could have done both. The lady would have thanked you, you a-hole.
It might be number two anyway. IDK if elevator etiquette is backwards from normal doors both way, or if it's just entering elevators that's opposite (the man enters, and holds the doors for the lady). I do it that way when entering, but still hold it open from the inside when exiting. Unless it's packed and I'm right at the door as you describe, in which case I feel like a wild animal and just bolt as soon as they open. Don't like elevators like that.
