i have seen it on a bunch of forums where you get to approve/disapprove a member's post, thus adding to his reputation.

    User Reputation
The User Reputation system allows your board members to leave comments about one anothers' posts, and thereby contribute to their overall 'reputation'.

Using the User Reputation manager, you can create titles for a variety of reputation levels, so that users are given a reputation title when they reach a certain reputation level.

It could potentially encourage better quality posts from newer members. What are the disadvantages?

Is it a potential bandwidth issue?

Does it have any bearing on the overall "readability" of threads - or does it clutter and ''ugly them up''?

Would it be the determining factor on membership status?

Is it too big of a process for the Crew to go through (for not big enough reward) ?

I kinda think Clutch Crew might be happy as is.

Would require a database which would cause more server load and more bandwidth....in other words, it would cost more $.

What? So you're saying it actually costs money to run a site like this?

honestly, I dont know why they have decided against it...I assume it has alot to do with bandwidth and server cycles.

Im actually one who has brought it up previously....so its not that I am against it. Back a few years ago I was active at antionline and they had the rep points feature custom-coded to auto-close threads and put posters on temp-ban if they got enough negative ratings.
I thought that would be a cool way of the community helping the Crew police the site, but obviously the Crew felt the positives werent worth the negatives.

Unreliable. People with unpopular opinions would likely receive negative ratings from those who disagree with them on a particular issue and not the merits of their actual posts.

yeah it would suck for people like you who have an unpopular opinion about a certain player, but would be awesome for me because everyone thinks I rule.

Making a thread criticizing Yao would be a death sentence.

    lol.

I don't think it would be that big of a problem.

I think it would force people to make realistic and useful criticisms.

I think most people are fine with someone saying something they disagree with as long as its done in a tasteful manner.

    That's very true.

And the same can also be said about starting a thread criticizing Tmac. I can see the likes of tmac_1, ronnymac, pmac, macgreat, macfu, macfan, etc will vote multiple times under different alias to send the thread starter's reputation to negative ratings.

tmac_1 and pmac are good, level-headed posters. They shouldn't be lumped in with the rest of the macaroons.
