Looks title-worthy on paper. If nothing else, they would have been contenders for years.

Think what they could have been if they had kept Mitch Richmond. Of course, not trading him would probably have changed things as far as CWebb and Sprewell.
That lineup you have right there is very talented.

No, they couldn't have contended and I wonder if they'd make the playoffs. GS doesn't suck because the players are bad. They suck because the front office is bad. They poison the whole organization. If you took those same players and put them in LA or Houston or Phoenix or New York, they'd have a shot. In Golden State, they had no shot.

JuanValdez, the way that the GS front office poisons the team is by making terrible personnel decisions. If they had kept all those players, the front office wouldn't have stopped them from winning.

That's not all there is to it. Look at Dallas. After a strong push at the end of last season after Cuban bought the team, the team finished 40-42. Currently, they are 28-18. And they've acquired Eisley, Laettner, Vaught and a couple of rookies. Why the turn-around? It wasn't that the players got better, it was that Mark Cuban came in and changed the whole culture of the organization. He's the reason his players try. If he had bought Vancouver, they'd be the ones making all the noise while Dallas continued to suck.

The same thing that plagues LAC and Washington and Vancouver and used to plague Dallas is what Golden State has and has had for quite some time. They have a losing culture in the company. And it won't matter how well they can play ball unless the effort is put in to change the personality of the franchise.

With experience together they would of been a tough team to compete against.

Don Nelson has to be the biggest joke of all time in horrid personnel moves. They should have traded him for a bucket of moldy cheese.

Nelson's actually redeemed himself in Dallas. The team's trades for Finley, Nowitzki, and Nash were all steals. But those Golden State blunders were terrible. I still say the worst was Richmond for Owens.

The Warriors were the Kings before the Kings hit the scene. They had better defense the Sacramento, their offense was better, and they had a pretty good bench. Could they have won a title? You have to think of the time they were in. Charle's Suns, Dream's Rockets, and teams like that ruled the roost. By the time those teams started to fadeaway, Tim Hardaway, Billy Owens and Chris Mullin started to fade as well. Then you are left with rebuilding that entire team around Sprewell and Webber. No I don't think they could have won a title then. Could they win one now if those guys were at their best? If they get a legit center they could contend. I don't think that team could have won a title.

Juan, you're losing track of the context. The Warriors won 50 games with Webber, and 55 games with Run TMC two years earlier. That's a "losing culture"??

No, they wouldn't have won a title without acquiring a center who could defend (BTW, Spree was also a top defender in those days, Smeg). But they would have been a contender IF they could have kept those players together under Nelson or a coach & GM of similar caliber.

(PS to DarkHorse: In 7 years with the Warriors, Nelson drafted 7 players who made the All-Star team. That's "horrid"?)

    Gotta disagree here....

GS DOES in fact suck because the players are bad. The front office is not stellar either, but they are not putting a solid team on the floor either. The front office has only so much to do with the success on the court.

GS has Jamison, a good young player, and Hughes.....new with the team....and that's about it. Jackson is making a name for himself, but he is a rookie. Mullin is too old and not getting minutes anyway. Sura is new with GS as well.

They suck primarily because the chemistry is not there, and they are very young. If Fortson had not gotten hurt early on, they may have a few more wins.
