As I was discussing the potential opt-in-and-trade to acquire Lebron James with someone else online, he gave an important point I never paid attention to before, that is Aaron Jackson's contract. He was signed April 11, so the CBA requires that he can't be traded within 3 months, which would be July 11. If we want to involve him in the Lebron opt-in-and-trade, then Lebron would have to opt in first, wait for 10 days until that restriction is removed, which would give the Cavs a lot of leverages in negotiation and increase uncertainty. Why we would want to involve him in the trade? We have to, if we want to do the trade without involving Ryan Anderson. So it's important to know exactly what his contract is. As I searched on Google, I found several sites indicating Aaron Jackson's contract is expiring this year, which means we can't trade him anyways: https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/HOU.html https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/b...n-signs-with-rockets-for-remainder-of-season/ http://www.spotrac.com/nba/houston-rockets/cap/ https://hoopshype.com/salaries/houston_rockets/ However, in ESPN Pelton's article: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23524190/lebron-james-houston-rockets-summer-here-how-happen-nba He mentioned that we can build a trade without Anderson, which involves Aaron Jackson. And in Bima's great article: http://rockets.clutchfans.net/11206/houston-rockets-salary-cap-2018-offseason/ He mentioned that Aaron Jackson (team option for $1.38 million, non-guaranteed). So I am confused. Does Aaron Jackson have a contract next year or no? Where can I find accurate information about Team/Player's contracts?
Trust Bima. Team option for $1.38M, non-guaranteed. The Rockets will also likely exercise their team option on Jackson (who is not trade-eligible until July 11 due to when he was signed), especially since his 2018-19 salary is non-guaranteed. While the 2017 CBA has changed the rules regarding how much non-guaranteed contracts can count for salary matching purposes, Houston and Jackson can always elect to amend his contract in order to guarantee his salary, in whole or in part, to the extent necessary to make a trade work. http://www.basketballinsiders.com/houston-rockets-team-salary/
Thanks, I should have just read Bima's article carefully, it pretty much covers all the scenarios one can think of. Pelton's article is kind of misleading, he didn't even mention that Jackson can't be traded before July 11.
The fact that he can't be traded before July 11 is so annoying. Should've kept Quarterman. Never understood this signing.
Currently non-guaranteed. But what they can do is Guarantee some or all of it if needed to be part of the trade. The amount depends on what is needed to make the trade work.
