I'm thinking about finally cancelling my DVD plan. I guess I can get DVDs from Red Box.

Do you still pay AOL for dial up? Do you have a landline?
Have the milkman and paper boy come by every morning?
Sunday brunch at Sizzler? Thinking about getting anti-lock brakes? Hitting Blockbuster on the way home from the Elks Lodge? Going to surprise the fam by buying a new set of Encyclopedia Brittanica? Going to use your Diners Club credit card to pay for the ice cream social when your court your wife?

Yes. I still rip copies of movies for my kids in the car as well as reformatting them for iPads.

If you have a VHS player then you dont need a DVD player.

Cancel the plan and use the saved money to buy a Motorola pager.

    You deserve one.

I still do. Plenty of movies that aren't available online. I'll cut it when I see the online library advance.

So a new movie in HD quality is $5.99 to stream.

    A redbox blu-ray is $2.00. Plus I get a $1.25 coupon every Friday. So it's $0.75. $0.80 w/ tax.

Luckily there are redboxes all over the place around me. I can typically just pick them up and drop them off when going to stores for other things.

We probably rent a movie on average once a week.

    52 x $5.99 = $311.48
    52 x $0.80 = $41.60

So, I save $245 and get a 86% discount renting from Redbox. So, why exactly would I want to stream movies instead? Convince me.

It is cheaper for a bluray than pay for a stream of a new release. 2 movies a week at $10 a month is cheaper than streaming a rental.

This. I've a long list of movies in my queue that aren't available to stream, and I'm not sure if they ever will be. Netflix adds new streaming options every month but also removes streaming options every month. It seems they aren't interested in getting their streaming library to anywhere near the levels that the DVD collection became. So I'll keep paying for the DVD service until that changes.

I don't but as others have mentioned the DVDs have a much greater selection of movies. I often lament not having the DVD plan any longer.

Do you still record songs from the radio to a cassette tape?
