Before you answer yes, you need to consider that the third fourth season, 2020-21, 2021-22, would not only be a luxury tax but also the repeater's luxury tax.

Do you really think Fertita is going till pay the repeater luxury tax in 2020-21 2021-22?

Think about that. And think about the implications if it on a roster with Harden and Paul earning gargantuan salaries in that third season. If you say no...then essentially you're saying we've got only a two-year window before we have to at least wind down some salary and either get under the luxury tax altogether or at the very least barely be in the luxury tax to minimize the damage.

Now how do you think CP3 feels about that?

I don't see why he shouldn't if the team is winning. He won't miss that money.

True, but I'm thinking if the Rockets can keep it together and add better players to the team, they could win 2 championships in those 3 years.

The due didn't become our owner while we were rebuilding, he became the owner while we were winning and competing against Golden State. He knew what he was getting into and I'm sure the plan is to do what he can and pay what he can to accomplish that over the next few years. After that, he can be all about the money. Regardless, he knows he could sell this team in 10+ years and make a huge profit.

Right now Tilman Fertitta has a chance to buy something that essentially can't be bought. I don't think he'll balk at the price tag.

Why do we keep misspelling the owner's name in thread titles?

    ...see...the misspellings become contagious.

If Capela can continue playing at allstar level, even with a max salary he can be traded easily.
Also Ryno will be gone soon.
Tillman will not pay a huge tax bill as he has a good GM.

I think he is dedicated to bringing championships to this city, he is a big rockets fan even before purchasing this team, therefore, I see him doing that if we are a contender for the next 3 years

I agree that we have about a 2 year window to try and buy a championship before we have to dismantle most likely and figure out step 2. But none of us would care if it meant at least 1 championship for the team. I personally think Fertita knows that as well and wants to maximize what he can right now in hopes of bringing a championship.

Yes he will have luxury tax implications but the revenue he will generate from a championship and somehow tying it into his own restaurants could bring a lot more money than just the typical merchandise.

I don't think any owner wants to be in the luxury tax for a long time, but they will all do it if it meant you are on the doorstep of a championship even for 1 year and irrelevant for a while after that window closes as we all know it will.

thanks, OP. Another misspelling of the Rockets' owner's name due to your thread title.

We're going to become worse than redit

TIlllman Fertttittta needs to realize that Championships have a residual value long after they occur. Fans love to latch on to a champion.

If we get Lebron... yes! Tilman will make so much money out of Jersey Sales, Golden Nuggets blowing up, and Landry's. Add a Championship to that and Tilman will be making more money than any other owner!

His fatal flaw appears to be loyalty. In this case that means he'll pay. But he clearly doesn't like rentals.

Is that what happened in Cleveland? And Miami?
