If he sucks he'll be occupying a roster spot for someone that actually DOESN'T SUCK. Shaun Livingston is a solid NBA player. Comparing him to the scrub that is MCW is just plain dumb

MCW better be working with a shooting coach. Otherwise, he becomes our Andre Roberson...lesser defender
    but better facilitator.

I don't like this move but I think if he plays to his strengths, which is playing defense and attacking the rim, he will be fine. Hopefully he can improve his shot from 3.

I've thought about it a lot without posting anything here. I guess my final answer is no, I don't like the signing but I also don't think it reflects poorly on the organization's decision-making abilities. Given the current market and the team's financial situation it is logical and there aren't point guards I'd rather have signed that would not dip into the MLE that we must spend on the more important SF position. But basketball-wise you can't introduce an offensive zero into a great NBA offense and just expect it to work. MCW's lack of shooting will make it hard for him to get real meaningful minutes. If he is forced to play meaningful minutes it's because a major injury happened and we were screwed anyway, so the poor fit wouldn't matter much.

If the starting SF spot is filled well, the disposition of our fourth guard spot will be completely irrelevant. Right now I'm more concerned with how we respond to a pretty meaningful loss (Ariza) without the capacity to offer anyone an Ariza-like salary. That will be the true defining move of the offseason assuming Capela remains in the fold, which I believe he will.

I actually really like it. He can't shot but i only expect him to play if cp3 get injured so hopefully he doesn't.

If MCW could shoot, he would be getting at least $10-15 million per year and one of the hottest FAs in this market.

MCW is a 6-6 player w/ a 6-7 wingspan that can guard 3 positions and is one of the best defensive guards in the NBA. He posted a 2.0 DBPM last year, which was only behind Murray, Westbrook, Robertson, Ball, and Danny Green among guards.

He can also handle the ball and can be used as an emergent ball handler or PG when Harden/Paul needs a breather. Don't let his 1st few years in the league taint the picture. MCW should only be used as a defensive specialist that can sometimes be used as a PG/ball handler.

If there is someone that is 6-6, can defend, handle the rock, AND shoot, that is likely a $10-15 million/year type of player, and not someone on veteran's minimum. We are basically getting 80-90% Robertson at 20% of the price. That's great value.

Again, Morey plays chess, while couch GMs play checkers. MCW is an excellent addition for the minimum with almost no downside.

all of that sounds good and all and the "correct" thing to say but him just being able to shoot is not the difference between him barely hanging on in the league and making double figures per year. There's significant holes in between there.

The minimum no downside angle isn't necessarily true. There are minimum moves that do not end up working out. Hou just had two guys that contributed next to nothing at minimum. I'd hardly call those excellent additions with no downside.

Every move doesn't have to be considered some great pickup just because it was made by the great Morey. It is what it is. MCW isn't the ideal player that is typically on this roster. That's why there's alot of people that feel it's a bad pickup and also being he just isn't that good doesn't help either. But he may just be a guy the team may be looking at to see if he can provide anything at all, as Hou does have holes in their roster at the moment with a limited pool to choose from.

I'd rather we signed players who haven't proven to be terrible.

For what he is replacing, there is no downside to a vet minimum signing like this.

This. A guy like Jeff Green was sitting out there. 6'9 athletic wing player with length who has the ability to shoot. it looks like a prototypical fit here on the roster. he's played in big games including the playoffs and contributed. Yet, for whatever reason there weren't any reports of interest. Hou ops for the MCW route which is a head scratcher atm imo

Dude had a low lights video that went viral. Not sure what Morey is thinking here.

Sure, there is very little risk for what we paid. Perhaps Morey will strike gold yet again. If not, no huge loss. We gave up nothing and signed him for pennies.

I like it . I think he will surprise with his defense and offensive impact in transition .

That's where I see the rockets trying to play more this year. Last year we slowed it down a lot to limit turnovers and take advantage of Paul and harden . This year , I see us trying to play more uptempo and force more TO's on defense.

I think guys like Melton and MCW can be used as good disrupters . I think we wanted to / needed to improve our athleticism and so far we have . Ariza was a great solid player , but his athletic prime is well behind him .

We saw that trying to play a slower , strength based game is OK , but the refs won't let us be physical vs GS .... so we have to get quicker .

I would love to see harden get with the plan too and drop some size in return for better conditioning and quickness . He won't be able to absorb contact on drives as well , but getting a call is out of his control anyways . If he can use his new quickness to just blow clean by people then I prefer that to baiting for a call .

I can see us playing super small . Cp, melton, mcw, harden , Clint

I kind of expected someone to point this out. Harden didn't play defense that season.. that video was needed.
