I think we're hoping for an Andre Roberson type of player, I think we can ignore his offense.

He can't shoot 3s? No problem, I wouldn't have minded some of his driving to the basket for an easier shot when we went 0-27 for 3s against the Warriors lol.

I criticized it at first but if the Rockets tell him to give 80% of his effort to the defensive end and the other 20% to layups only, he could be good for 5-10 minutes while Paul and Harden rest.

All he truly needs to do is defend, because if the roster shapes out like I'm expecting then there will be plenty of offense.

I like it for the same reason I like lotto tickets.

You can’t win if you don’t play

I hated this initially.. but I've started to dig it.

In a small ball line up with Tucker at the 5 with everyone else who can shoot, he would be there to help on defence. I guess it would move the position who can't shot from Center but still be able to stretch the floor while he's running a play at the top of the key. From what I remember he's a fairly decent passer?? :/

why waste a roster spot and give chances to such a hopeless case.

The more I think about it, the more I like it.

On paper, any one-year 1.75 million contract (of which the league reimburses 250k) is great to have for matching salaries in a trade. It's especially good when it's a relatively young, enigmatic player like MCW. So in a worst case scenario, he helps with trade flexibility; in a best case scenario, he benefits greatly from playing on a winning team for the first time, and is able to revitalize his career.

Can’t shoot the three but that’s fine as long as he’s not attempting to. If he can create some shots for others and play a little perimeter defense, then run him out there to give others some rest and see what happens.

Not paying him enough to be down about it.

For the minimum and the 4th or 5th guard spot, yeah it's a good deal. Realistically though, when times get tough MDA will regress to his old habits. MCW imo wouldn't have played even when Paul went down. So it's more like insurance/depth for the regular season than anything else.

It is a low risk/moderate reward scenario

If he can play D and set up
Capela for dunks he could be valuable in limiting CP3’s regular season minutes ... especially when we are running teams out of the gym, we can have him eat up minutes and save the mileage on Chris.
