I have faith in Savage. Bench him in week 17, and let Osweiller play since we have nothing to play for.
That's an interesting point about starting both Manz and Martin. I never even considered that. That wouldn't be half bad considering that Manz was a question mark at the beginning or the year. He's more than capable and definitely not a liability as i was afraid he might be when Martin went down in camp. Also considering that our draft pick will likely be in the 20's in sure a solid 8-10 year starter can be had on the line without reaching no?
Yeah, I just remember that Martin played guard for one year at Notre Dame so it wouldn't be a big stretch for him. And it's certainly possible that a guy like that could be there especially at G/C. But OT? I'm not so sure. Cam Robinson out of Alabama maybe? He has some character and pass protection issues but has a chance to be a solid pro RT. I just keep hearing the "experts" say that this is one of the worst offensive tackle drafts they've seen in a while. Though some guys could decide to come out at the last minute. And some could possibly raise their stock a bunch once evaluators watch more film on them and once they play in games like the Senior Bowl. Looking forward to the draft and free agency in a major way as usual in order to see how they fill holes but hopefully they can make some noise in the playoffs before we get to all of that.
This offseason will be more interesting than last offseason IMO. Will Rick and Bob give lousy Brock another year or will they draft a qb high (first 2 rounds) and have him compete with Savage.
LOL, what a ridiculous question. Of course Brock will get another year with the team, we always knew that due to his contract alone, and no of course they aren't going to waste one of their top 2 picks on a QB to be 3rd string. C'mon man, you know better.....probably.
This QB class looks pretty bad but they say that every year. I rather shore up our O line and looks like Cushing and Wilfork will be cap hits so need to replace Cushing
And even if they did, the Texans wouldn't take them.....let's not have this conversation for the next 4 months. End the QB delusion now to prevent a bunch of idiotic conversations from happening. It's just not going to happen. It shouldn't happen. It won't happen. Instead let's focus on positions that the Texans might actually look at, positions that they SHOULD be looking at.
Yeah, Texans are well set with one of the worst QBs in football and another guy who's played 2 games in his career. No need to consider trying to upgrade that position.
So you want them to just eat Osweiler's contract and/or cut Savage in order to go with a rookie drafted at the back of the first round or later? Solid. Sounds like a good way to become the Browns. If we are operating within the realm of reality then it's obvious that the QB position is set for next season, it will be Savage and Osweiler battling it out in camp with Savage being the favorite to win the job. Any QB picked would be a 3rd string guy who would sit for at least a year. Now maybe you think that's more important than improving positions for this upcoming season, but I highly doubt the team agrees.
You guys hate on BOB a lot but he has lead us to back to back division titles with some of the worst QB play in the league
You're going to be eating his contract regardless - that's a sunk cost. Making decisions based on that is exactly what terrible franchises do. If there's a QB the Texans like, they should draft him and sit him and let him learn for a year. There's nothing wrong with carrying 3 active QBs if needed. Otherwise, you're going to repeat this problem in 2018 if Brock stays Brock and Savage turns out crappy. Then you have to either start a rookie QB or go get another FA and just do the same damn thing, and by then, you're probably on year 5 of medocrity, and the great defense they built will be turning over and have been wasted. This organization is horrendous at planning for the future at the most important position on the field - that's the only really defining thing about this franchise. Until they do that, they'll keep going in circles. The Browns do exactly what you're suggesting - let their QB situation become a crisis, throw a new guy into the wolves, rinse and repeat. They deal with it differently - drafting one every year, letting him suck, and then repeating - but the underlying principle is the same. They deal with the QB situation after its a trainwreck. I'm suggesting proactively dealing with the problem. Too many QBs is better than too few. The Texans have too few right now. If Savage turns out great next year, then they wasted a draft pick but have a great team. If Savage turns out crappy, then they have a guy with a year of experience learning the system under his belt instead of starting over completely yet again. As an example, Savage is that guy right now instead of being stuck with Brock or nobody. But we don't have any real idea of what he can be. So they need to have the next Savage in line. The dream organization - New England - values draft picks as much as anyone and routinely spends 2nd/3rd round picks on QBs despite the fact that they are in win-now mode all the time and they have 0 need at QB barring injury. This year, they picked up a guy in the 3rd round despite having Brady AND Garropolo. We could learn a thing or two from that.
Bracing myself for the "QB competition" next training camp. B'ob will assure us they have 3 or 4 QBs all capable of doing a great job and Houston should appreciate them.
