I'll admit what we agree on: stronger border security has in past lead toward a more secure border and deterred drug trafficking. It works.

Both Mexico and the US have gone through changes in the ideology of leadership in both the executive and legislative branches of government. Yet, problems in Mexico persisted then just as they do now. That the violence in Mexico is due to "conservative"-anything is a weak and intentionally provocative claim.

Strong border security hasn't stopped drugs at all. The US - Mexico is the most travelled border in the world with tens of billions of goods crossing it yearly, how exactly do you think drug trafficking be affected?

Well which party believes in prohibition and being tough on crime? Which party doesn't believe in unions and believes and lax enforcement and regulations for labor? Ole Rick Perry didn't want to enforce e-verify along with a lot of the GOP.

I'm sorry but conservative policies in this instance are very destructive. Mexico wasn't like this decades ago.

These drugs have been illegal for far longer than the current level of violence in Mexico has existed. There's the end of the debate.

Those who fail to study the past are doomed to repeat it.

Lol. Please actual read my responses. The drug routes switched to Mexico in the 80s/90s as the US shut down the routes over water. Mexico becoming the MAJOR route of drugs is what has caused the increased violence. Cartels fight over those land routes through Mexico...

I'm sorry but you just aren't knowledgeable on this subject. The US creates the demand for drugs and the level of violence in Mexico is a direct result of US drug policies. Prohibition never works.

I think that there should be stronger security at the border but what was signed this weekend is not the correct solution, SB4 was just signed by Abbot this Sunday. I feel there's gonna much more racial profiling which is gonna suck for the Hispanic community in Texas.

Yeah, and the problem is that Abbot's solution will make communities less safe. If people are willing to talk to the police and give them information that helps them solve crimes. If people are afraid of being harrassed over immigration even though they aren't hurting anyone, then they'll simply stop giving up information. Oh well... I just feel sorry for residents of Texas.

    Border security? Yes, please.

No...I mean...obviously this was the US's fault for making meth and heroin illegal within the past 20 years. If only we had less border security, this could have been prevented.

No, it's the US' fault for having an insatiable appetite for meth and heroin. You want to build a wall to cut off our drug supply, go cold turkey. Balls to the wall, G!

Maybe $20 billion for treatment instead. Make Mexico pay for that!

Speaking of drugs and Mexico, if you look from a common Mexican's perspective, it's quite easy to say "Hey USA, thanks for funding these incredibly violent drug dealers in our country, by YOUR drug appetite. And your gun manufacturers made many of the weapons they use. So now you want to build a wall so your people can't buy drugs anymore. And you want us to pay for it. You're so cool."

I imagine that both the Mexican government and many CF members will be in complete denial about this:

Nope, just like nobody was in denial about your previous stories about violence in Mexico. The only denial would be in the conclusions that you seem to draw from those stories.

Look at this charity going on in Mexico.

Oh man, look at this one.

    And look at this.

I'm sure the American government and one CF member will be in complete denial about this amazing charity happening in Mexico.

You are the only one in denial about what policies are behind this violence. A lot of folks are aware of the increased violence due to the war on drugs.

More of the same.... more stupid American conservative policies.... more stupid and needless death for our neighbors.

Keep it up..... your ignorance on the matter would be embarrassing if it didn't result in so many deaths. It's sad how ignorant you are on the matter.

Journalist are killed like it's a war zone. Probably because it's as deadly as a war zone. Which is probably due to it being a war zone.

Sounds like what happens in Russia but instead of drug Cartels doing the kiling, it's the Russian govt. Both bad situations.

Good news, the Mexican legislature may pass a bill that virtually eliminates the army's role in the cartel fight - leaving it up to local police.

This is good timing, since we now know that 2017 is the most violent start to any year out of the past two decades.

On pace to be perhaps the most violent year since the revolution.
