I think they should look into Taiwan too... I mean Taiwan not only has their own basketball league but they're all aware of the NBA too.

I'm a filipino who lives here in Houston. I visit the Philippines often and buy NBA merchandise there because its cheaper. But filipinos are huge NBA fans.

Kobe is the favorite over there.

    FilAm here :)

Fwiw, its been popular in the PI for ages even before Yao, last time I was in Manila back in '95 Hakeem did a local Sprite commercial with a filipino kid.

Not sure how it is, I believe they show games live on cable and on tape delay on regular TV.

LOL I think the NBA is more popular here now because our national team sucks and recently got their asses handed out to them in international play. I mean, its kinda' hard to cheer a player on knowing that he's only a big fish in a small pond lol.

Most people I know watch college bball and then the NBA and skip out the local league entirely lol

Kinda tough to compete in international play when your center is about as tall as Aaron Brooks...

Yeah, I have several Filipino buddies and they're all crazy about their b-ball, but they are a vertically challenged group. :)

I never knew that Philippines plays the badminton and volleyball. I always thought their 2nd sport is horse riding or football.

There are some filipinos here that can dunk. You dont have to be tall to dunk the ball. You just need hops. That was the only reason i didnt get cut from my high school team because i could almost out jump every one (my vert jump was higher than the other people that had tried out for the team) but I was just short.
