Having been out there for work in the past, I believe it. Detroit itself has gone into Bill Simmons' Tyson Zone - I can't imagine a crazy enough story about Detroit that wouldn't be plausible. You could play a game with them at this point: Real News or From The Onion.

    I LOVE this report, lol.
"One hell of a surpise...one heck of a party in her pad...three men helped themselves to all of her gin and seagrams...these cats went crazy...they were high as I kite on the chronic..."

I don't think I've ever seen a local Houston news reporter have such a fantastically worded report, nor have I ever heard of such a crazy story in Houston.

Having been out there, I can honestly say the Detroit News should be syndicated. Lump it in with reality shows. Swings between hilariously unbelievable and horrifyingly disturbing at the same time.

I work in the residential REO (foreclosed) sales business and remotely manage real estate agents in the Detroit market (among others). This video was actually sent to me yesterday by our leading Realtor in Detroit. Unfortunately, a story like this is nothing but a drop in the proverbial bucket... and it's an extremely large bucket.

In the nearly seven years I've been managing assets in the Detroit market, I've had Realtors and prospective buyers repeatedly robbed at gun point when going to view a property. I had an agent go into one of our properties only to find the front door (badly) booby-trapped to fire a shotgun at anyone who enters. I've had vacant properties robbed of all available metal... and I'm not just talking about copper wiring. Recently a property of mine was broken into and the theives even stole the wrought-iron fence in the front yard, all of the doorknobs, and all of the sink faucets!

In the 1950's, this city was dubbed as "The Paris of the West." To give you an idea of how rapid Detroit's decline was, the city-limit population was 1.8 million in 1950 vs. just over $700k in 2010. That's a decline of over 60% in 60 years. It's heartbreaking, deflating, and downright maddening what has happened to the one-time capital of American innovation and manufacturing.

    Sorry everyone... post = downer.

Any Detroit thread is incomplete without this.
