Is it good enough for 15 minutes per night as a back-up?

Yao Ming was the last drafted Rockets player to be a All Star. Carroll Dawson, Rudy Tomjanovich selected Yao.
Daryl Morey is more known to trade for a unknown prospect, like James Harden who worked hard to reach All Star status. Daryl 1st Rd Draft history after Capela has been poor overall, after the Harden trade no GM wants to trade with Daryl anymore, Rockets look to me like they banned and hated since the Harden trade, NBA teams got a memo that don't help the Rockets in salary or trading All Star talent to the Rockets.

Of course he would be fine for a backup but DJ is not 2012 DJ so we shouldn't expect Elite anything from him. There is a reason he is being thrown into a trade as nothing more than an expiring contract.

    Um - Chris Paul?

    We traded for him.

How often would you expect a team to make a trade to bring in an all star level talent?
And how often would you expect them to draft an all star level talent (especially late in the first round, or even in the 2nd round)?

    Capela is all-star level talent.
Paul was an all star when we traded for him

Chris Paul is nowhere near a All Star talent this year especially this year, those years are gone.

Capela could have well become an All-Star this year, if not injured. Morey drafted him.

We didn't have super high picks, because Morey has kept the Rockets competitive the entire time.

Can hardly hold that against him.

    Now I am curious

How many all stars were drafted outside the top 12.....during Moreys tenure.......?

    How many in the west?

Overall (East and West), enough to field an entire roster--15.

If you count all of the picks after #12 and the entire 2nd round since the 2007 NBA draft when Morey first started as GM that's

    18 1st round picks (#13-30) x 11 years

    +

    30 2nd round picks x 11 years

    528 players picked. 15 all-stars out of 528 is 2.8%.

I’d be more interested in Matthews that DJ, but either would be a solid buyout market pickup if they become available.

People are still talking about starting 2 bigs that can’t spread the floor in 2019?? I see there’s some McHale’s up in here...

u can’t start Faried next to Capela...

DJ defense is suspect at times. Ive seen him not wanting to contest shots, he'll just stare at you while you do a lay-up.

Not if he was a backup lol. He better be contesting everything and going for every loose ball. 48 minutes of top 5 center play.

Maybe he'll care more on a relevant team? A lot of veteran players skate on lottery teams waiting to be a piece on a contender.

Are you serious? Yao Ming was the number 1 overall pick. Give Morey the number 1 overall pick and see what he can get. Heck give him a top 5 pick. He turned our highest pick (12) into James Harden. With number 1 we would get Michael Jordan.
