    Thank goodness too. Interesting article.

Good to not have a repeat of last season so far, where screwing up TWO timeouts cost us a playoff series.

Surprising to see the Clippers and Mavs so low in offense

Also Spurs and Grizz defense is in the bottom 5?

    Lies, damned lies, and statistics

I think I saw a similar study (might have been based on FG%)

Rockets were near the bottom in defensive stops after timeouts.

Dunn really doing work for the Rockets this year.

So Houston is 3rd in Offense ATO and Defense ATO. That's coaching folks. McHale might have earned a reputation as a terrible coach last year, but this year's early returns show that he and his staff are doing something right now.

It's time to turn McFail into McNail, because he's nailing it during time-outs.

Fixed that for you, man :p

Really though, maybe I'm misreading this. But to me, it looks like both the Grizzlies and the Spurs are top 10 in halfcourt defense and offense under normal circumstances.

When they're coming out of timeouts, though, their halfcourt game on both ends dips quite a bit.

One factor here is small sample size. There are few enough ATO possessions for luck to be a major factor in the results. A team may well have gotten plenty of good shots out of timeouts and missed many of them.

Well, that was unexpected. I guess we can finally leave the tired argument that McHale cannot draw up a play. But it was shown a couple of years ago statistically that timeouts favor the defense much more than the offense. Coaches should not call an offensive timeout except to advance the ball. Period.

And honestly I expected the Blazers to top the charts on offensive TOs productivity. Just goes to show how fallible the eye test is.

McHale took a timeout after a -8 start last game and sent us into a 21-7 run right after. I don't know how he's doing it, but his coaching has been excellent this year.

    Am I reading this wrong?

    the author says

yet that seems to indicate we're killing it on timeouts on both sides.

FACT: The Beard requires from time to time a pause in the action to groom his epic facial hair. Otherwise it may become irritated and cause The Beard to furiously drive to basket and draw contact in order to stop the clock and address said grooming needs.

I am a little confused about the terminology here. I do believe I understand the columns. But I am not sure. Would you offer a short explanation?

    team

    offensive adjustment

    defensive adjustment

net (offense + defense), since a -ve number is good for defense, im adding a negative of the defensive adjustment for the net total (for us for example, its 8.9 + -(-15.1) )

So, am I reading this right? The Rockets are by far and away the best team coming out of timeouts in the NBA?

    Thanks.
