Dawson is in the midst of his 25th season with the Rockets and ninth as the club's GM. "CD has been very loyal to the Rockets organization over the past 25 years," said team owner Leslie Alexander. "It is great for our organization to have someone of his experience when it comes to dealing in league matters. We signed him to a multi-year extension in order to ensure he remains a member of the Rockets family for years to come." Dawson's responsibilities include overseeing all player personnel moves and dealing with free agency and trade issues. He also manages the scouting department and addresses the club's needs. Some of Dawson's biggest moves during his tenure as general manager include trading for All-Stars Charles Barkley, Steve Francis and Scottie Pippen, while picking Yao Ming and Cuttino Mobley in the NBA Draft. Before moving to the front office, Dawson worked as an assistant coach under four Rockets head coaches. He aided Del Harris (1980-83), Bill Fitch (1983-88), Don Chaney (1988-92) and Rudy Tomjanovich (1992-96). Dawson is the only person to be on the coaching staff of all four Houston teams that have made NBA Finals appearances. 03/25 12:00:40 ET
When some of his moves took place, my thought was WTF! Now with the way the team is playing, there appears to be a method to his madness.
