1.) Nice Grammar 2.) A 30-20-10 game in today's modern NBA is still ridiculous. It hasn't been achieved in the NBA since the ABA merger. 3.) Product of what system? 12 rebounds a game and 55% shooting doesn't translate well enough for you? Get that weak ass argument out of here.
for all the people still hating on david lee's accomplishment. if it's so easy against the warriors how come someone else hasn't done it?
I have barely seen David Lee play. Want to believe that he is a product of the system and just a good player who puts up awesome stats on a bad team. I don't think he is a superstar who deserves max money. With that being said, his stats are amazing and if it were that easy to up those kind of stats on a bad team then plenty of other players would be doing it too. At some point you just have to realize that the guy might not fit your typical prototype b-ball player, but the talent can't be ignored. He must be damn good to put up that line. Would love to have him on my team.
Yeah I think thats a respectable opinion. I wouldn't want David Lee over Bosh by any means, but I think a lot of people really don't understand that he is a very good basketball player. Very unique skill set for a guy who plays the center position.
It's very difficult to be a worse defender than Amare... Lee is going to win hands down on the other side of the court. My explosiveness comment was directed more towards the pre-micro fracture surgery Amare, when he was the most athletic big man - with the exception of Lebron (If you count him as one). Having said that, as good as Amare is today, he was a shade below his pre-surgery days and you are absolutely right about Lee matching him on his offensive production. In fact, I would go so far as saying that I would take Lee over Amare at this point of their careers.
The #2 player in the entire league in defensive rebounds per game can't grab defensive rebounds consistently? You have no idea what you're talking about.
You know how Dantoni works. Play a bunch of offensive scorers to spread the court so a guy as good as Lee gets open with regularity. Then, play zero defense but catch some teams off guard throughout the season. You KNOW Lee's stats are a product of the system. He's a good player just no where near 20/12 good. Outside of the system he's more of a 16/10 guy. It's pure insanity how people consistently overrate players that play in this type of system.
I'm failing to understand this logic. You think that by playing better defense he would average 2 less rebounds per game?
No. Dantoni disregards defense. He plays all of his scorers together which spreads the floor and makes it impossible to properly defend a good offensive player like Lee. So, Lee ends up getting open far too often. That takes care of the point inflation. Dantoni also prefers a fast offense. He'll often play lineups with only one good rebounder and a few wings. So, while the team as a whole is getting steamrolled on the boards, the primary rebounder will see a significant spike in individual rebounds as all the "easy" boards fall to him. See: Shawn Marion before and after Dantoni (particularly in the 05-06 season that Amare didn't play and he was the only good rebounder)
...and I really like David Lee as a player. I just throw away any statistics earned under Dantoni, Nellie, or any coach running a similar style. Those stats are useless.
They're not useless, they just need to be adjusted for pace. He'd still average a double-double and would likely perform better than Scola here. He's basically a bigger, more athletic version of Luis, as a matter of fact. And actually he'd be a fantastic fit for Adelman's system, since he's a good passer and great at hustling and moving without the ball. Problem is there is probably no way to actually get him here, since we don't have the cap space and NY is likely not interested in a sign and trade with us.
Got more people now with their Overrated Magnifying Glasses looking to see if everyone is fool's good. Which everyone is allowed to do. But then they defeat the purpose using some unsound logic behind their "evaluations", aka really just rationale to be a hater. I don't see the big loss in saying "I LIKE David Lee. He's a good player". Or doing that with any player in the league outside your bitter rivals. You didnt say give him a max contract. You didnt threaten anyone's basketball existence saying David Lee is a beast lol. I will say...I was very secretly upset the Rockets drafted Luther Head with David Lee still on the board. Nothing against Head, just liked David Lee more.

His Defensive Rebounding Rate that year is virtually the same as it is the D'Antoni years, which meant he was getting more offensive boards on top of the same rebounding. Lee was getting 30 minutes a game in '07, so it wasnt in limited time. (Lee even had a better FG % with Isiah, though I will say THATs the "Landry" effect of limited minutes and not being a focus on offense) In short, Lee was as good a rebounder as he is now before D'Antoni. D'Antoni's pace maybe helped him do it back to back years. Stats show D'Antoni's helped his PASSING the most (which is how he'd add 10 assists along with the points and rebounds)
David Lee is suffering from "I'm a white NBA player so no one can say I'm good unless I'm Larry Bird" syndrome. Lee is a legit player. I hope he goes to the Nets and mans that PF slot next to Lopez. That front court would be nasty.
The rebounding rate and PER are based on the total number of rebounds, which basically means that it is pace adjusted, and thus his current rebounding total is a bit inflated. Assist rate is based on the total number of possessions he takes up, so basically assists per shot, which means that increasing that stat while also increasing his shots is quite impressive.
