Daryle Ward has been tearing it up this year. After hitting 5 homeruns in 62 AB's in the minors, he has hit 2 homeruns in 14 AB's this year including a monster game tying shot. His bat looks quicker and he is in the best shape of his life. He is also playing his natural first base position. He is still young and Astros may have made mistake and trading him for RUDDY LUGO, who by the way was cut. GO WARD.
Ward got himself traded when he refused to even get into decent shape and become a servicable outfielder. It came down to Ward or Berkman and the choice was easy.
Thank You! The guy had "potentia" and he gave us glimses of greatness, but when it came time to start he didn't show anything and he was expendable. He wasn't even good after we traded him and he started. He has yet to prove anything other than he has power and can hit when he wants to. He has no consistancy at this point.
Did you post about Ward last year when he hit .183 with a hefty slugging percentage of .193 (19 singles, 1 double). Where should the Astros play him? The only mistake the Astros made in trading him was not trading him a year earlier. How many years should the Astros have waited for him to get into the "best shape of his life"?
Were did you here that BS from . He 's just like the rest of them he didn't fit the good ol boy mole so they traded him lets not get it twisted .
ward sucked total and complete ass before we traded him and continued to for the dodgers or whoever it was we sent him off to. he was a top prospect at one point, had an absolutely gorgeous swing, and could have been great but was unmotivated and fat for the last portion of his time with us. why so much flak for a the astros when he they gave him every single opportunity to shine?
We had too many good outfielders, and one that was absolutely terrible. Maybe Ward's finally gotten motivated, but there's no way the Astros should have wasted anymore time waiting for him to come around. He was given more than an ample chance.
You're joking, right? You think Ward was traded because he didn't fit the "good ol boy mole [sic]"? His sub par production and piss poor attitude had nothing to do with it? I suppose the Dodgers demoted him to AAA and got rid of him because he didn't fit their mole of good ol' boy, either? Ward may end up getting his act together, but if it happens it is probably because he was repeatedly demoted and traded, not because he suddenly, magically decided one day to start playing well. If it took that many wake up calls to get his head right, there is no way the Astros would ever have had a chance at much production out of him.
He was going nowhere with Houston. He started for us in '02, and his production was sub-par. .276, 12HR, 33BB, 72rbi, 453AB's. By the way, 14 AB's is no way to judge a player's season.
Daryle Ward was one of the most disappointing guys for Houston that I remember. Rivaling him for sheer disappointment points is Eric Anthony.
the only thing d-dub ever did well was go all out on gettin outta the bus to be first in line at Luby's......
The Soriano deal falling through was because Alou exercised his no trade clause. The Astros wanted it to happen.
100% correct, kev. Also, Sorriano wouldn't have been our SS (where he is utterly incompetent), Hun wanted him as a CFer. F*** the Hand Pisser.
