It is obvious to all that the Texans are suspect against the run. It was evident against Washington, but Gruden mysteriously opted for the passing option. Raiders even showed how soft we are against the run even though they did not rack up the yards like the Giants did and man we got our butts handed to us in that one. This season is going to get ugly very quickly if Texans do not address this issue asap. I note with interest that Texans tried out Ryan Pickett(6'2" 340) from Packers. He is not special, but will certainly add some depth in that NT position. It's looking like Geoffrey Pagan could develop into a very good Dlineman for us, so I hope he gets a lots of snaps to get him the experience he needs. It's a shame Louis NixIII has not lived up to his potential as yet. I know a lot of people are very concerned about our O, particularly the QB position, but there is an old saying:- "Offense wins games, but defense wins championships." There is not a lot we can do with our QB situation in the short term, but we sure as heck can do something about that D, and we need to do that now. Discuss.
That's true too, hopefully he develops into something as well. If they get back healthy and stay that way, I won't be too worried about the defense. The combo of Watt and Clowney will be fun to watch.
Hope you're right - but we need help now. Clowney definitely will help out and so will will Nix if he lives us to his potential. It's good to see Texans are being pro-active in resolving this.
nothing but better interior DL and faster/stronger ILB will solve this problem. teams will run all over the texans all season long.
Hoping the Texans sign Ryan Pickett. He had a workout today with the team. He is by far not an elite DT but has always been good against the run while in Green Bay. And like GB, the Texans rely primarily on an outside rush and just needs large space eaters on the inside to slow down the run and allow the outside containment to do their job.
Good post! No need to throw in "discuss" at the end. Just pisses me and probably no one else off that I can rally to that particular lost cause. Ah, screw it! I agree with your 'it depends on the D' position to a point. More importantly though, it depends on BO'b getting the roster to buy back in before he loses them.
Point taken about the invitation to "discuss" ! If Clowney comes back and lights it up that will definitely be a big help. I just hope he can stay on the field. He will likely only be a two down player until he can prove he is 100%.
I am still hopeful that Max Bullough will force his way onto this team. The guy has leadership qualities and can read offenses.
I agree the first two games were won by riding Foster and very timely turnovers. This is not a recipe for success and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see a repeat of last season.
Just like last year, it really wears the D out when the O team can't even earn a 1st down on any drives. I think the two sides play off of each other, and the offense isn't earning nearly enough possession to strike a good balance. They don't necessarily need to make flashy plays, just move the chains. At least a couple of times.
Wow did ya'll see his mother killed a guy a few days ago and been charged with manslaughter .. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...ther-manslaughter-mothers-boyfriend/15121423/
First two games of the season the Texans offense controlled the clock, moved the ball and didn't turn over. Texans defense was last in the league against the run after two games. People have excused the defense for three years.
Linebackers as a group have been disappointing. Cushing is not nearly the player he used to be and Brooks and Mercillus only show up occasionally. Who was the linebacker that knocked Schaub's helmet off a season or two ago and then was signed by the Texans? He looked good to me, but is no longer around.
