1.8 million the minimum someone with 5 years experience. He's been the league for 2.

I need a refresher on whatever weird cap/tax game Morey has been playing with Tilman. All this wheeling and dealing and dumping to get down below the threshold. Is there more to it than avoiding the tax? Somewhere, from @BimaThug or wherever, I picked up the notion that if we stay out of the tax this year, we can plunge into it for 2 or 3 years without paying an astronomical increase. Is that true? I want to believe that there's some benefit to the team, in terms of our ability to stock up over the next couple of years, from the fact that Morey just squeezed under for this year.

    Anybody got a link?

You're thinking of the Repeater Tax. Just google that. Or search it here and select Bima as the poster.

The idea was that we push back the clock by one year on starting the Repeat Tax count-down...as it doesn't kick in until you are in the tax for 3 of 4 years straight.

Then, with that, we still must ask ourselves what is it that would really matter, wrt Benefitting Harden vs only Benefitting Tilman. Only thing that really would matter is going well over the tax with a looming extremely high repeater. If you are just marginally over tax when you hit Repeater multipliers, well that's not bankrupting you, so what was the big deal now..vs this is Harden's prime years/Window.

My Opinion: So, imo, only way it matters wrt benefitting Harden as opposed to only Tilman, is if we actually land a blockbuster trade, and have to give that guy max money to stay...which puts us well over the tax line....to the point, many owner might not do it (with Repeater looming over them), or worse, the player/agent doesn't consider us a target team, because they don't believe we'd use the players Bird rights...so they don't even try to come here.

They can match the minimum with non bird rights , anything above that would require dipping into the MLE.

That's exactly the scenario I'm interested in. If Morey is eyeing Butler, and Butler is eyeing us, does Morey's hustling to get under the tax this year make more sense?

This is yeat 1 or CP3's 4 year contract as well. Maybe on the last year of his contract, it opens up trade scenarios while affording being able to go over the cap. Harden will be 33-34 by then and Rockets will be in transition to rebuild with some younger star talent.

Everything is too fluid, playoffs will determine a lot. Championship or bust for this team.
