I dunno if there is anything we can do other than give him a better roster to work with . He isn't gonna change his ways , and the same tendencies that have hurt us in the past are still gonna be there . But a better roster might mitigate his flaws . I think it's super important we get off to a strong start . I know the best value pickups are mid season buyout guys , but if we don't start off hot .... MDA will lean on Paul and harden (if healthy) to get us wins . Last year . 11-14 start . MDA starts playing CP3 on a b2b to "get him in shape" or whatever excuse MDA has "he loves playing" etc .... CP3 then goes down for a month . Just no excuse. What is the guy doing playing our 33 year old point who got injured at the end of last season on a back to back in mid December !?!?!? It doesn't make sense . As others have mentioned it may not even matter if we get good talent . Hartenstein and Clark got burn early in the season and looked OK . Yanked and never seen from again. We need a coach who assumed making the playoffs is a given , who is willing to use the regular season as a testing grounds and as a way of developing chemistry and communication . MDAs goal is to win the most games . Other contenders focus on the postseason... the whole season . Veterans can prepare themselves . Youngs guys bring energy . This is a time tested strategy We need a 4th guard who can take mins from Gordon , Paul , and James .... and preferably a 5th guy who can step into the 4th spot if someone gets hurt . We need a couple 3 and D forwards . We need a backup C for the whole year . MDA might be able to manage to keep guys minutes down if we have 10 , 7th man or better type players .... and we stay healthy . Otherwise MDA is gonna tighten his rotation at the first sign of trouble . It's probably the best move to win us that given game ... but over the course of the season it wears guys out and even more so in playoff series given how intense it is .... also this way none of the other guys learn how to play in pressure situations . MDA is a regular season coach . He's gotten close , but it feels like he loses for the same reasons over and over again . Let's be real . If we win it's gonna be because James , CP3 , and whoever else we have is playing lights out .... not because of some brilliant decision MDA makes
MDA needs to nut up... If anybody isnt giving 100% at any given time - he needs to address it... If Harden is too tired to play off ball - sit him down... If CP3 is runnin his jaws needlessly - shut him down... If someone like GG is chucking ill advised shots - reel him in... If someone is messing up - coach 'em - dont just bench em... If something aint working on a given night - swallow your pride and adjust...
He should of been doing all this from the get go.... He is after all the Head Coach..... Hopefully he learned this season that his lay back style ain’t winning us a chip.
