I hear that it is not OK for a straight guy like myself to be culturally inclined. I enjoy plays, symphonies, and musicals. I like going to museums whether it is art, history, or science. I saw Mama Mia in FW. It was good partly because I am into ABBA's music.

what the hell is this thread about? I mean no offense to you North Star, but why should anybody be scared to be cultured. If you are scared of being cultured and you think its associated with homosexuality, perhaps there are deeper issues here. Dont be afraid to do whatever you want

Exactly. Just be confident in what you like and take no offense/act nonplussed if anyone ever tried to tease you about it.

And if all else fails...just speak with a French accent and you'll be fine. ;)

Nothing wrong with it, obviously, but there definitely is a stereotype out there. If you are too cultured you = gay. I have gotten it a lot in my life. No big deal and sometimes I play with the situation, but it nontheless is asinine that American values have been distorted such that men aren't supposed to be smart, cultured, etc..

I once went to a Spanish Flamenco dance and I got an A+ in Art History.

None of this ended up with me swordfighting with Neil Patrick Harris.

Yeah, museums and symphonies are for homos. That's why I hang out at the Blue Oyster Bar. There is nothing but tough motorcycle men in there.

I've acted in plays since Junior High School, I like live theater, symphony and opera almost as much as football.

I think one of the hallmarks of a real man is not worrying overmuch about what other people think.

I love Culture, and Musicals (not really into art). My music taste is also a bit different from a lot of other men(I like Lene Marlin, Lionel richie etc).
IMHO it doesn't matter what other people think. If you like it enjoy it.

So it is ok for a straight guy to like those things.

Some of my favorite things in life:
video games, a nice dry Cabernet, good beer, art of any sort, heavy metal, opera, ballet, the symphony, and titty bars.

Women love a cultured man. Its a shame how many people these days have never seen a great opera or ballet. Especially with the companies we have here in Houston.

The whole stigma thing is just....stupid, and frankly non-existent. At least amongst the people I know.

I'm not sure I really understand where you're going.

    Kids eat what they like.

You know there is a difference between be cultured and liking ABBA, don't you? ;)
