http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2006/10/sura_sighting.html (Might there be a sure-a sign of good season a comin' than Sura a comin' back?) October 31, 2006 Sura sighting Rockets guard Bob Sura grabbed attention merely by attending Tuesday's practice. With the NBA season starting tonight and the Rockets' opening Wednesday at Utah, Sura attended Rockets practice for the first time this season, going through an individual workout before practice and shooting drills after. He said he felt fine, without the swelling that has so often derailed his hopes for a comeback. He looked good, having spent so many hours he could not run lifting. "I had to do something to fill the days," he said. "It's been killing me (not playing)," Sura said. "There's nothing I can do. I just put forth 100 percent effort. If it doesn't work it doesn't work. But I'm going to give it my all." The key will still be how his right knee, repaired with microfracture surgery, responds as he continues to increase his workload. It had seemed that Sura was ready to call it a career. Until last Wednesday, the Rockets thought he was about to tell them he would not be able to use his roster spot. It would have gone to Casey Jacobsen. But Sura is as determined, perhaps stubborn, as ever, and believes he will make it back. "One, I enjoy him," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "Two, I think he's a tremendous competitor. Three, I think he has great heart and will. And fourth, he has the basketball character to want to continue on even though he is going to get paid whether he plays or not. I love guys who love the gym and love guys who love to compete. He does both and I hope it works out for him." The Rockets are not about to argue. If he can play, he would offer a valuable veteran to the backcourt. He would not have to carry the minutes he did in the 2004-05 season when the Rockets guards were so banged up he hurried back from knee surgery. If he can play hard for short bursts, maybe six minutes a half, he might be a valuable addition to the Rockets rotation while John Lucas III and Vassilis Spanoulis learn the NBA ropes. For now, he took another step closer on Wednesday.
good read not too much stuff on bobby recently. sucks that it sounds like he wouldnt be even close to being ready until end of dec/jan
Your dates for BS' return are pure speculation, as is, I guess, any dates for Bobby's faint chances of returning.
Hundreds of arm chair doctors on this forum are looking pretty foolish right now after the thousands of "Sura is done" posts.
It will be interesting to watch, even if he gets on the court, staying on will be a different matter.
So does the poster who said that "Rockets Dynasty is done with this forum" Oh wait that was you. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=119439&page=10&pp=20 BTW - Sura is done, he just won't admit it yet.
Mark isn't lying, but since when have the injured athletes themselves been a good source on timetables for returning? Everyone thinks they'll be ready sooner than teh doctors. And almost all of them are wrong. Shaun Alexander was talking about being back after only 2 weeks. Look at him now. Evan
You mean like Amare and C-Webb, too? I, as is (almost) everyone, am rooting for Bobby to make us all faint. However, in the newer, quicker NBA how effective might Sura actually be?
That is not the point. We need him as PART of the team on and off court. We need his determination and heart to make this team better!
I'm confused - if he doesn't have the speed to keep up might he not be a better part of the team next to Chuckie Ward? I have no clue as to whether he returns or not, returns at a high level or not, but I am a hoping that Sur-a will be creating fainting all over RoxNation.
