Agreed. I highly expect Sampson to stay. Not only does he love UH but he and his entire family love the city of Houston.
If the Coogs lose, I guess it will be because the coach and team were distracted by this talk of Sampson leaving.
I just don’t see him staying unless they pay big. I had to deal with Sampson at IU. He has a history of being a turd. Helluva coach, but he’s working his way back to a big time program imo. Do I think he’s a good coach? Yes, damn good. Do I hope he stays at UH? Absolutely. I believe UH could be a big time program once again if he stays loyal. I’m just not so sure he does.
https://houston.sportsmap.com/kelvin-sampson-says-opponents-cant-game-plan-to-stop-one-guy Sampson appeared Wednesday on ESPN 97.5's The Charlie Pallilo Show, and addressed questions about his coaching future in Houston Coach Sampson said he's already spoken with players about the rumors, but right now, it's much ado about nothing. "They know exactly what's going on. There really is nothing to address, I haven't talked to anybody," Sampson said. "I have an agent, like every coach does at this level. He hasn't talked to me about anything, nobody's talked to him."
Someone I know is convinced Sampson, once offered a good UH contract, won't leave for a "bigger" school given his experience in the past, and that only an NBA offer would be a serious threat.
Yeah. All these talks about the coach leaving or staying right in the middle of the tournament is bad.
this is what happens when the program gets all this attention. it's really unavoidable. you just have to hope the guys in that locker room, especially the seniors take advantage of what's in front of them as best as they can.
Did anybody else watch when Game Day came to TFC and interviewed Sampson. I know coaches can say they love their program and it's the perfect job and turn around 3 minutes later and sign a big pay day to big-time program. But that interview showed a very personal side of Sampson. It seems he and his family are very content at UH since Renu and Tilman backed up their talk with building the program the way he wanted. He knows he can get guys he wants here and win. If he was to move on to piggie land, Texas A&M or someone other big money school the entire family would be going and I think there isn't a big appeal to leave what they have. Sampson keeps adding 15% with every win from here on out. No worries, Tilman will add some penny slots at his Casinos and pay for the raise. Pulling for Friday night fun, Go Coogs.
I don’t know if someone already post this question. Just wanted to ask is Jim Nantz going to call any of UH games? If not, why? Or is just waiting until they make the Final Four?
IF Sampson were to leave, I hope they remember the lesson of football : continuity from hiring within the exiting staff doesn't usually lead to consistency of on-the-court success.
Im going to watch a game since the tickets are so cheap. Group of 5 probably cost me 60 bucks or less
Oof. That's more offensive reading material than the Sampson stuff for the players, I hope. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Sampson left. That is what successful coaches do at UH. I can think of plenty of reasons he'd want to stay, but money can change your mindset in a heartbeat. Basketball is different from football, yes, but if I thought for a second we had anybody locked up here I'd be fooling myself. We could win it all this year and still not offer some of the things Arkansas can. Then again, they're in Arkansas. Sampson is 64 years old and he apparently decided not to take an NBA gig about five minutes ago, so maybe he likes it here enough to stick around a few more years. I can tell you that I'd much, MUCH rather coach the Orlando ****ing Magic than Arkansas, but I'm not on the shortlist for either (I checked). Gives me hope, but I ain't gonna be fooled by "I've had no discussions" again.
