Is this part of the NCAA tourney, or a preliminary to that?

 

No this is separate from the NCAA tourney

Every conference has their own individual tourney after the regular season ends, before the actual NCAA tourney. Some teams need this tourney who are considered on the bubble to strengthen their resume to be invited. Others solidify their position or make a stronger case for themselves for a higher seeding.

"Selection Sunday" as they call it, happens after these conference tourney's are complete so the final decisions are made taking all things into account to field the final 68 team tournament

Although, we're nearly at mid-March....could they be running out of time for "March Madness"?

 

the only games that aren't played in march are the final 4 and national title game. so it's definitely still gonna be madness as always

Selection Sunday is BS. Coogs will be a 3 seed.

I believe Davis, and eventually Jerreau will be playing in the NBA.

its going to be tough for davis as it has been for gray. definitely rooting for him and he has the perimeter shooting/defense going for him.

fwiw the UH staff sees the raw talent in Jarreau and Hinton as their highest probable nba prospects down the road

The Cougars are legit. Wins over LSU, UCF and Cincinnati twice are good wins but not quite No. 1 seed territory. However, Houston is Final Four-capable.

Houston is still a 4 in the net. The system the committee uses. That is unlikely to change before selection Sunday. So I still see them as a 2 seed. If somehow that translates into a 3 seed then the idea of eye test is f'd up. It means eye test and bias are still ruling the roost. The whole concept of eye test is stupid to me. Nobody is watching all the teams, and who cares if they are, they see what they want to see. Does the 2 or 3 matter, not really, unless we get pushed to a 4 which would be a travesty, but if you choose to use a system then trust it.
