Would it be a smaller arena but with fancier atmosphere? That way it always looks full and brings in better amenities to the people that are there.

IIRC that's right. The renovation will end up having less seats, but will get the fans closer to the action. Fancier arena might help us get recruits too. Hoffheinz is outdated at this point.

Is the Fertitta Center a new arena or are they sprucing up Hofeinz? The main thing that needs fixing in that place is the lighting. Makes it feel like a cave.

Yeah they're just renovating tf outta Hofheinz, I hope the ceiling is elevated because it seems like any full court heave can hit the scoreboard.

Phi Slama Jama member Benny Anders found after hiatus

Benny Anders, a member of the University of Houston's Phi Slama Jama basketball team who has eluded public scrutiny for 30-plus years, has been tracked down in the Detroit area by an Austin filmmaker and will appear in an upcoming documentary on the famed 1980s team.

ESPN Films is expected to air the film, titled "Phi Slama Jama" and directed by Houston native Chip Rives, later this fall.

Anders, one of the more flamboyant members of the flamboyant UH squad that played in three Final Fours, was found in Michigan by Rives with the help of former UH player Eric Davis, a former Chicago police officer, according to a story published Monday on Sports Illustrated's website.

The only details about Anders' current circumstances mentioned in the Monday story is that he works at a restaurant in the Detroit area and that he "looks good."

Filmmakers, understandably reserving much of the Anders material for revelation in the upcoming film, told SI that Anders ends the film with the line, "A brotherly love is a very powerful thing."

SI also reported that Anders was paid for his appearance in the upcoming documentary.

Plan on watching the game on replay tonight to see if our bigs are going to hold their own this season and support the guards. and to to see if Gray has matured mentally. Box score looked promising, balanced.

In my entire life I have never been able to count the fans in the stadium before. I did. There were 31.

Solid win by the squeaky sneakers of Houston. Knocked off an undefeated. We are going to miss Pollard this year and his ability to lift for his own shot. Overall, team has a better flow as a unit, but we don't seem to have as much presence on the floor as say last year. Though Van Beck adds an unexpected spark. In a sticky way we will be almost as good as last year, but no necessarily better.

Onto Vermont! They gong down in the Championship boy.

Looking good so far. The American is quite weak this year so we have a very good chance IMO.

26-2 blitz of Cornell to open and we roll by thirty. 5-0 baby. five-oh. Sampson appears to have reigned in Rob Gray and Davis is a man out there. Next up: We get to embarrass LSU for the second time in a week.

Beat PV by a bunch over the weekend and now we have another big test in Arkansas on the road tomorrow night. The game is on the SEC network at 6pm in case anyone is interested in watching. Arkansas is coach by the former UAB coach and we had some fun games against his teams during the Penders years.

Must win. Joe Nightmare Klein can bite me. If we can come out 10-1, and then knock UCONN down we'll have a road map to the 64. A loss really hurts though.

Poor Cougars have talent, but having trouble rebounding, with length and athleticism, and seems like when they need it most they miss shots. It's like the Georgia Tech game all over again from last year. When they face the bigger kids they just can't quite match up for all 40 minutes.

This was a great rpi win against a great team in Rhode Island. Confidence boosting. Knocked down an Iverson and a Hurley as topper. They did everything right from coming back, to getting post play, to hitting big shots. Big time Knowles 25. Big time Gray with 30. Outstanding. Robinson looked a little buttery in both the feet and hands, but played well enough to get her done. 7-2!

Liberty flushed. Sampson finally made adjustment to stop the dreaded deep ball with a 1-3-1. And the rest was history.
