he just signed an extension through the 24-25 season less than a year ago. he isn't going anywhere anytime soon and it was done under the terms of kellen being the coach in waiting
I do not know the exact terms of his contract but we had Tom Herman under contract and we all know what happened there.
football and basketball aren’t exactly the same situations. You can win in basketball despite not being one of the “bigger“ colleges. He isn’t going anywhere. His entire family is all over this program. What needs to be done to keep him here for years to come has already been done.
Herman was a good coach, too, but the circumstances of his life, career, and ambitions are nothing like where Sampson is at right now. Going to Austin would be a setback for him.
Sampson is building a legacy here. He is hoping the family vibe he has going lasts beyond retirement. If Sampson was leaving he would have left last year to Arkansas. The program he is building and the relationship he has with UH brass is really strong. Next season UH probably will be a favorite in the conference and maybe ranked early in the season. Herman was all about Herman. Sampson is all about the family, and UH is his family now.
At Temple tonight, time to get that 7 game winning streak under their belt. After stinking it up in Tulsa, Temple will be looking to correct their play. I hope the Coogs can frustrate them early and hang on for the win.
when sampson was talking about scoring and caleb mills he definitely wasn't lying. dude can score in so many different ways. really interested to see how this guy develops as time goes by good win tonight
Nice to see Caleb Mills come through in the clutch. Now lets see how we do on the road against Tulsa on Saturday, the team that just beat Temple by 26 points. .Love the offensive rebounding. Grimes and others need to start hitting their outside shots. This game should have been over a lot sooner than it was.
Crushed Temple on the boards. That’s all heart and effort. That’s coaching! I wouldn’t want to match up against Houston in the post-season, regardless of which tournament it is, because they play about as hard as anyone in the country. Love the toughness Sampson has instilled in that team.
Great analysis of last nights game. Hinton is the best rebounding guard I can recall for UH. Harris has really improved his game over last year. Even his ugly free throws are going in. Now if we can just do a little better job dealing with zone defenses and start hitting a better percentage of our 3's we will be hard to beat.
You got exactly what you were hoping for. Wish we would have blown them out but it was nice to see after giving up a big lead we hung in there and did not waste a dominating rebounding effort that allowed us to control the first half of the game.
I mainly just wanted to see them keep the streak alive. I figured Temple might struggle early. Next up Tulsa. If they can get wins all the way thru the Shockers on Saturday the 18th they'll start getting noticed by the top 25. This team is still pounding out the finer points of their identity but like all Sampson teams, defense is the bed rock. They'll be ready come conference tournament.
this team doesn't have any true shooters or snipers. what you're seeing as far as scoring from the 3 pt line isn't going to change this year. but this team isn't relying on that as one of their strengths. they're focused on what they're much better at in other areas and winning games in those ways.
The Coogs are just an amazing team on the glass. They rebound as well as any team I can remember in a very long time, which is a huge testament to the culture that Sampson has brought to the program.
What's also amazing is that they have five or six guys that can lead the team in scoring on any given night. They don't really have a go to scorer right now though Mills seems to be the right fit for that. He can shoot a little and has some moves to shoot mid range and hit. Nice win last night. What was with that camera angle though? It was like the camera was in the corner of the arena. Weird stuff.
I am glad we got the dub after that bs that happened with CKS getting a technical foul for pulling off his tie last year. This was a quad 1 win too and that won't hurt come tournament time. Its also a bonus when you win on the road against the top half of the conference too.
