100% testing for all and this virus could be eradicated in 45 days.

The cost of 100% testing outweighs the cost of the whole world shut.

Exactly. 100 % testing, but contact tracing, that's what needs to be done. I can already see privacy fanatics go up in arms (especially in Germany), but hey.

So many marriages would get ruined once they found out all the husband's or wife's contacts.

Put a id number on each test, tie it to cell phone location. This can be one off and focus some level of encryption.

The question really is do you have it or not and what is your location?

Why not use our logistics network with postal service amazon, ups, fedex, dhl and all hands on deck to get the test out. This could be mobilized and out to the people in a matter of days.

I hope some of this funding is going to universal testing

Throwing money at masks is not going to do anything to stop the cycle

it's a chicken or eggs situation here in hospital.

"Am I having a Corona infection!
    or
was I infected while I was waiting to be tested, this explains why it showed negative back then but now I'm certain"

2/3rd of staffs are absent, half the sick patient are not coming bc they fear getting really sick ! TBD

The problem with that much testing is that it will initially cause to report the highest numbers, I can't imagine that Trump would be happy with that. He has stated he doesn't want a big number. This might be one reason we aren't seeing much testing.

Yeah and if trump was smart he would throw a huge chunk at testing and trump could come out of this and be way fine before election.

    Instead ..

S korea has done 340,000 tests.
Drive thru testing times at 7 minutes.

Geo tagging who tested positive in your neighborhood text alerts.

Inventory counts of masks and other items at stores with limit to amount you can buy.

We need the antibody tests for that which still haven't been invented.
Only this way you can differentiate between someone who is found negative because they haven't been ever infected, and someone who is negative because they are already recovered.
Only this way you can know which people are safe to go back to work and keep the society running.

The SK tests that take only 10 minutes have very low sensitivity and can only detect the virus after 4-5 days of incubation which means they are falsely negative for many carriers.

And like what China, South Korea , Taiwan and Hong Kong are now finding out in times of a pandemic it is impossible to eradicate a virus because of flowbacks. Unless you want to completely isolate a country from the outside.

It's the key to the economy. I would love to get this test and see if I have the antibodies.

Where will 350 million testing kits come from?

Shouldn't people be paying something out of pocket for all of this?

Shouldn't those who do end up on beds and needing ventilators pay something out of pocket for that? Not life ending debt, but maybe 10, 15k?

This is the article you're looking for, the logistical nightmare of overnight production and global shipping

Why Widespread Corona Testing isnt coming anytime soon

Yes exactly. And you will be able to get it in the next months.
Because this is the only way out for the world until a vaccine is found next year.
Even if a moderately successful drug is found.

The ability to test at scale appears to have been a crucial—though far from the only—means by which China, South Korea, Singapore, and other countries have been able to control their epidemics. In the U.S., the imposition of lockdowns in Washington, New York, and California have only amplified the demand for a comprehensive testing program that would, ideally, allow for a more targeted strategy of contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine. During an interview on CNN on Monday night, Governor Andrew Cuomo said, “That’s how we’ll restart the economy.” But multiple public-health officials told me that the supply-chain constraints mean that such a program will be, for the near future, impossible to implement. And if there’s anything worse than not having tests for covid-19 broadly available, they say, it’s treating what testing capacity we do have like an unlimited resource.
