Well deserved. I was dumbfounded when they initially gave him that contract but he has become one of the cornerstones of this defense over the season

Texans will need to keep him at a position where he's most likely to excel. He's made this defense a helluva lot better.

Has Clowney won DPOM? You'd think the voters would recognize how he gets double teamed every play and give him points for that.

Looking like a good move now getting Whitney at a bargain for 6.5 million per year.

The Titans and Jags have single handedly made Mercilus' career. He has 12 sacks this season. NINE of those came from sacking the QBs from Tenn and Jax. Of his 30 career sacks, nearly half (13) of them were racked up against those two teams.

    That's insane!

Good thing since the Texans aren't leaving the division anytime soon.

It is. Congrats to Mercilus, keep dominating our division opponents.

Keep the crappy teams in check.

Remember what people were saying about him before the season started?

Watt, Mercilus and Clowney have to be the most destructive d-line in the league for years to come. All of them are relatively young, obviously especially Clowney.

Clearly a product of playing Jacksonville and Tennessee this past month, but nice job by Mercilus to take advantage of it. He's been a huge contributor to the defensive turnaround this season, and hopefully he'll take that into the playoffs and shine.

Even those its just 2 opponents, the games against them make up a quarter of their entire season.

    Not that insane.

Whitney might have a shot at the pro bowl as an alternate. Greatest sack season ever for a Texan minus Watt and Super Mario

Mercy has added some moves to his rep and seemed to get stronger in the offseason.

He has been bullrushing very effectively this year!

Sure his numbers are inflated due to beating up on the Jags and Titans, but he still deserves credit for it. I'm a little bit surprised they didn't give it to Mack who had 8 sacks due to his one crazy 5 sack game, but I guess being on a playoff team put Mercilus over the top.

Also good he's performing after getting paid. Would be more questionable if it were a contract year.

    Congrats to Whitney

Texans had the DPOY 3 of 4 months this season.

Clowney's won that award as many times as Khalil Mack. :)

Props to Mercilus! He seems to be developing a mean streak. Starting to remind me of Sean Jones

Watt also made a point about recognizing Whitney. He's done well and his technique is so much better. He always seems to play the run well but now his experience is there
