2007 Hall of Famers with Texas ties...Missouri City, TX native Thurman Thomas, Houston Oilers OG Bruce Matthews and Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Irvin.
I cant stand Irvin. i dont care how good he was, its like inducting TO into the hall of fame or something.
Not even close to T.O. Irvin played with ONE team and Aikman has nothing but good stuff to say about him. Now how can you compare that to T.O.?
well thats true about the ONE team thing, but i've heard lots of guys say good stuff about teammates they obviously dont like. i just dont like him. That said the hall of fame is based on performance on the field, not what happens off it, so he deserves to be in.
Congrats to all, I love all them dudes! In retrospect, I think the Oilers had the best unis of any pro sports team.
wow, didn't think Irvin would get in for a few more years. Kinda weak of a class I guess. And that's coming from a cowboys fan.
why is Irvin a HOF'er but A. Reed is not? Irvin's numbers.. TD's : 65 ( 37th all time ) Receptions: 750 ( 20th all time ) Yards: 11,904 (14th all time ) Yards from Scrimmage: 39th all time Pro-Bowl: 5 A. Reed's numbers... Receptions: 951 ( 5th all time ) Receiving yards: 13,198 ( 8th all time ) Receiving TDs: 87 ( 10th all time ) Yards from scrimmage: 21st all time Pro-Bowl: 7 If you're going to put Irvin in, you have to put in Reed ahead of him IMO.
Reed played more seasons than Irvin. Stats don't mean as much in football as baseball. Irvin is a better reciever than Reed and Irvin's career was cut short. Who knows how many more stats Irvin could of put up. Like the poster said up above..having 3 rings helps. And with Thurman Thomas, he was the BEST mulit purpose back in the 90's.
Art Monk? 2-1 in Superbowls Never played with a great QB...Kelly and Aikman are leagues beyond Theismann, Williams, etc. 6th All-time in catches (was second when he retired) 11th All time in Receiving Yards (was 3rd when he retired) The first receiver to 900 receptions 106 catches in a season (the record when he retired) 183 straight games with a reception (the record when he retired, now 2nd) 68 TDs 13.5 yards per reception NFL's 1980's All-Decade Team I really don't get why there aren't more Redskins in the Hall from their three Superbowl win era... especially from the O-line. That the Redskins won 3 Superbowls with 3 different QBs in one era is amazing and I'd be astounded if it ever happens again. The mainstay of that team was the O-line, the most dominant unit in the NFL during those years. At a minimum Russ Grimm and Joe Jacoby deserve immediate entry into the Hall. If multiple win QBs get an automatic pass to the Hall, I don't see why the Redskins O linemen would be any different... they made Super Bowl winning QBs out of 3 different guys. Yes, Thomas was good, yes Irvin was good and they both belong in the hall, but a damn good argument could be made that Grimm and Jacoby and probably Jeff Bostic all deserve it before the glamour boys.
I agree with Art Monk. He actually finished first all-time in career receptions when he retired. It's a shame he's not in.
