https://www.engadget.com/2016/10/06/comcasts-1tb-data-caps-start-to-roll-out-nationwide/ This is bullshit. I hope news of inaccurate tracking gets them class action sued to the Stone age. Really wish google fiber was a thing here.
It's good that I'm probably going to be done with Comcast in less than a year. I don't think I'm going over the 1TB cap anyway though.
Wouldn't this just push the 1% to another competitor. And comcast loses. Without the entire market shifting to the limits it seems like they lose dollars and prestige, but I don't know much about it.
For many people there is no competition outside of ADSL or dialup. I don't even consider myself a heavy user (no sub to streaming service), and I'm at 200GB in 5 days according to their calculator.
Dont know how much I use, but I just moved into a new house, and Comcast is the only provider. Xfinity is terrible. The TV service cuts out so much, the guide is awful, it shows all channels, not what you are subscribed too. I mish DISH like a week in.
RIP anyone that has a family or roommates. Single people and old people that don't do anything outside of surf the internet are the only ones not affected.
I got the email today. It said I average 250 gb per month, so I should be alright. In Atascocita so the only other option is ADSL. .
Is 50 extra for unlimited worth it? Am I getting the right amount of 4K p*rn and lossless music to fit my daily needs?
I don't agree with it, but I understand. Canceling their TV package, cutting their revenue in half while increasing bandwidth usage many times over to stream online content has its price. This is their response to net neutrality that everyone was so in love with.
This only effects a small number of users who have something to hide (spammers, misogynistic gamers, bitcoin miners, hackers/Anonymous, illicit pornographers). If you have nothing to hide, one should have no problem with these caps on data.
Hmm, I think I found where my usage comes from. Apparently even though I have HBO (which gives me access to HBO GO), HBO GO is counting against my cap. They also forced me onto their X1 cable box, which looks like a web interface. Wouldn't be surprised if damn cable content is counting against me too. Who knows how many rocket games before I cap out
It is BS. It is not like it makes a difference to them how much you use other than them seeing an opportunity to charge more for it. I only avg 118 GB a month but I am nervous this is going to be the start of something else such as tiers of service eventually. They should just put the cap on people that only have internet if they are nervous about people cutting the cord. Why punish the loyal customers who already overpay? There have been stories of people saying that comcast cant tell them what they used data on and you just have to take their word for it that their number is accurate. With 4K TV becoming more relevant and downloadable video games becoming more of the norm every day, usage will go up most likely within the next couple of years. Such a slap in the face.
Can anyone tell me what the chances of us getting Google Fiber anytime soon/ever is? I know they pick cities based on infrastructure but I don't know how our city would be classified.
https://fiber.google.com/newcities/ if you're in Houston - not a potential city yet. My town is a potential city - so i'm holding out hope
LOL @ anyone "understanding" why Comcast is justified in doing this. If only 1% exceed 1TB a month, then why not go after them exclusively? All this other nonsense is a straight money grab via fear mongering Oh how nice that comcast will cap the $10 per 50GB overage charge at $200....wait, then why even offer the opportunity to pay $50 up front to get "unlimited data access"? Steaming pile of bullshit
Yup, just got an e-mail saying they are capping my internet at 1TB/month and tried to justify it by mentioning my actual usage for a three month period which is much lower. They tried this crap before trying to cap home users at 500GB and it backfired.
