Did he actually say we have all of our draft picks going forward? Going forward from when... next year?

Though simply accumulating talent isn't enough... you have to accumulate the right talent. Meaning the talent needs to work together and fit the system you have in place. We don't need to be a team that is always drafting in top five... heck, SAC is always drafting top five.

What we have done is acquired a bunch of players (skilled or not) that don't fit the system we are currently running. We have players that can't hit wide open threes. Can't make layups. And when they do get fouled... can't make their FTs. Then on top of that, they are so careless with the basketball they don't even get a shot at the basket.

And that's just on the offensive side of the ball. They can't (or won't) defend the perimeter, and when they do get close to the perimeter shooter they can't (or won't) defend the drive to the basket. The weakside defender rarely helps. And when a shot does go up, they turn and watch, like junior high players, instead of boxing out and crashing the boards.

Lastly, Morey's complaint that its largely other teams feeding the criticism? Fer reals? he needs to read through the past seasons worth of Clutch Fans... comprised of the team's most fervent and savvy fans. Its not Mark Cuban... SMDH...

I took his meaning as we have all our draft picks going forward....starting next offseason. Which I believe is true. So at least we're not in the same boat as the Brooklyn Nets.

I did take issue with the way he defended how the Rockets have gone about building their team. He was lamenting how the team doesn't have lottery picks like other franchises. Well, whose fault is that? They chose to win their final 3 games this season when it was crystal clear they wouldn't finish any higher than 8th. By Morey's own admission, they were facing a historically great team in the first round. So why bother sacrificing the pick for a quick knockout?

Also, no one put a gun to Les' head and said he had to try to maximize wins in those post-Yao/pre-Harden years. The Rockets clearly were going nowhere with that roster. So why not trade away pieces and stockpile young talent and draft picks while racking up ping pong balls of their own in the draft lottery? We did do some of that(trading Lowry for Toronto's pick, for example), but we clearly didn't do enough give how many 14th picks we wound up with year after year.

I also hope it was PR spin when Morey patted himself on the back for finding "great players" like Bev when he didn't have draft picks to work with. No offense to Bev, but the fact that we're relying so heavily on him at the PG spot is why we're in the mess we're in. Bev is at best a role player, not a starter. He's a streaky 3-point shooter. He can't create his own shot. And he's an overrated defender. We need real talent. Not castoffs from overseas who were cut from their previous NBA team for a reason.

OK, and agree with your critique of Bev. Nice guy, plays hard, has even added a somewhat effective floater, but with him as starting PG we almost always lose that matchup.

Where I disagree with the above is I always want the tea to win games. Losing breeds a losing culture (see SAC). What IS the problem is choosing the wrong players even when we get a draft pick. For example, Sam Decker. Poor outside shooter. Poor FT shooter. Slow footed defender. Too small for PF, too sloth-like as SF. Wasted pick. Can't keep making bad picks (bad trades, bad FA signings).

Morey, stop blaming and making excuses such as opponents trying to sabotage your offseason free agent strategies. This team was HORRIBLE this season. Everyone including fans like me saw it with our own eyes! Take some damn responsibility ah***! You wasted our time and money this season!

I watched it again, he really has to get thicker skin, if he is going to put himself out there, and he does, he has to stand up to the criticism - there were tons of excuses given in this interview.

Lots of facts were made up and not true - seemed to be deflecting on the coaching hire by basically saying Les hires coaches. And more excuses about how they have to take more chances because they don't have a high pick.

Nothing wrong with taking low risk moves, but you have to be willing to pay for guys that pan out.

We always go cheap on our role players and that is in contrast to teams like the Spurs and Warriors....and IMHO is our biggest weakness as an org.

If McHale gets the head coaching job at Sacramento, you know he'll try to bring in JBB and Buckner along with him. If we're lucky, McHale could somehow convince Divac to take Brewer also.

Those that disagree are praying it was an outlier season for him.

Morey's not delusional, but he's obviously feeling the heat, and nothing should scare an NBA fan more than their favorite team being run by a desperate GM with money to burn.

Will the Rockets have the balls to keep their cap flexibility if first and second tier free agents pass on Houston leaving nothing but third tier players who will be grossly overpaid the minute they sign their max contract?

U guys said anything so easy, but the operation is a different thing. If u think Morey doesn't understand what u understand, it's too ridiculous.
Guys must learn to accept the team's operation mistakes, the most important thing is to update and try again.
Morey should be blamed for this season, but he understands what he needs to do

He looks like someone who doesn't want to be there, someone who is wondering about his future and is very stressed.

I think he's just trying to put the best spin on things which is what he should be doing.

But yeah, it's a bad situation.

He sounds like a guy on his way out. Total meltdown mode.

Doesnt see through all the numbers, misses the whole point of why this team and many teams before him werent successful.

Morey is way more open than most. Watch a Rick Smith press conference.

Best part was Feigen growing balls and pressuring Daryl about considering any style of coach.

I was pretty pissed though that no one asked him why he was so obsessed with kicking cans.

I wonder that myself. Too bad Twinkies aren't available anymore; that's Morey's comfort wood right there.

LOL, Morey sounds and looks more and more like Bret Bielema and Charlie Weis by the day. Morey doesn't have to travel far to catch up with those luminaries in terms of delusions, narcissism, and body weight.
