Westbrook and Blake will be here next summer now that they know Harden is here for 4 more years.

What a great signing. Now this is a destination team like GSW and Cavs.

Next year = Cavs versus Rockets

We get another year of certainty we'll have James Harden (3-yrs for sure) and it likely means no more impact free agent signings this year. Okay, as others have pointed out, there wasn't a lot out there on that front. This is a no brainer. We arent contending this year no matter who we added with that last $10 mil, this is easily the wisest use of that money. How could anyone disagree?

I'd like us to focus on trades anyway, and there's also the potential to create cap room that way, enough to maybe sign a guy like Vasquez or additional depth. Trades are how we get additional impact players; clearly our free agency was Anderson, Gordon and nene.

Time for some Morey wheeling and dealing!

You r really funny. will Harden's tenure be a lot like Steve Francis? U can look around total NBA, who can bring his team to Playoffs every season whatever his teammates r? In addition to Lebron, it is Harden! It's not a problem u have a bias for Harden, but You should not pretend how much you care about the team

But you somewhat contradicted yourself. You said loyalty is erased by personal legacy. Turning your statement around, rather than bolting for a ring, you are implying Harden re-ups "if the Rockets are truly set to win a ring," but say both are driven by selfish motivations.

Then you say, Duncan, Ginobody and Parker are loyal. But doesn't your theory say they always re-upped and took less to give Pops cap-room, because the Spurs were truly set to compete all their careers, so why bolt. I can see saying Duncan is "loyal" like Harden for re-upping right now, but as for Ginobody and Parker, there is nothing special about their "loyalty," since they re-upped because Duncan did. Don't say Harden stays for a ring or bolts for a ring, depending upon the Rockets chances...and make Gino and Parker sound special.

Nope, false......just means I am not enamored with the current makeup of the team.

You guys do realize that you analyze each and every situation, things are fluid, they don't stay the same - and thus opinions about those things change.

Right, you guys do realize that? Right?

DD - like an onion - depth and layers to his opinion....try to keep up.

    ;)

I edited that because it seemed too harsh as HP has a habit of chasing people around looking to start fights.

He has a very negative history here.

Maybe it's more akin to a symbiotic relationship; inspiring mutual loyalty. Both parties are doing their part; it's in their collective best interests. Great players want to be with great organizations; winning, well-run organizations. Organizations can't win without great players. SA proves, keep you players happy, surround them will good players and constantly find and attract new ones, create a winning culture and your best players will stay around. Because it's in their best interest to do so, even if that means taking a few million less to be a part of that.

Of course not all players value winning the same. I don't think Dumcan, Parker and Manu are your average NBA players.

Projecting other teams' cap situation 'then' is specious.

I'm just uncertain that anything is etched in stone, and 'prefer' to remain open to the vagaries and vicissitudes of the day when something could possibly occur.

    DaDakota,

You're not a guy who changes his mind when it comes to simple principles that you live by, based on some changing dynamics to team structure. We love you for that. We love the fact you stand strong with conviction to simple principles like "Pay your players what they are worth and don't treat them like cap-flexibility and trade flexibility assets."

We love your sound-bites of truth -- Can Kicking. We may not agree with it, but your sound-bites of simple principles are beautiful in their simplicity and conviction.

Now you seem mad that we are joking with you about flip-flopping.

Stick to your convictions. Your convictions say pay a legitimate Max player the max...and screw cap flexibility as a reason not to.

Don't change DaDakota, just to contradict Morey.

Their dump was within the West. Unusual. The Bulls dump? Junior to...Cleveland? Calderon went West (tho had been seemingly destined to Brooklyn's sandy shores).

New trend, if indeed a trend.

FWIW - - I 'wanted' Junior. Somehow would have suffered thru a Brew dump to ensure the ensuing.

It figures. For once the Rockets don't kick the can down the road and suddenly flexibility and cap space matter. No matter what the Rockets do (and this was a good move on their part) he finds a way to find the glass half empty even if he has to flip-flop more than John "Pancakes" McClain.

Whenever I think of DD I think of Matthew 11:16-19:

16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:

    17
“‘We played the pipe for you,
    and you did not dance;
    we sang a dirge,
    and you did not mourn.’

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”

Pretty much, no matter what if they go left he says they should have gone right. If they turn around and go right he says they should have gone left. There is just no pleasing the man.

Not understanding the ending of the article.

So long story short, if Westbrook wants to come to houston next summer, will or will we be able to sign him?

I kind of agree with DD that maybe harden is a guy who peaks early in his career (like Francis or tmac)

But the contract still makes sense because you lock him up through his 20s.

May make him more of an asset

    Sarcasm?

No it isn't. We're not quite a destination team. Until we can prove to the nba that our system works and we have a plan in place with Dantoni, no superstar will consider us.
