[ClutchFans] For Rockets, winning in 2012 would be nice, but losing might be better

Great points that I have wanted to express as clearly as you did. Thanks for posting. Let's hope we can watch Morey make some decisive actions rather than have him try to accomodate this dual mandate from ownership of rebuilding without being bad.

i'm just scared that we'll end up like the clippers or any other perennial cellar dwellar. as long as they play hard and keep the games close, i'll be ok with a throwaway season provide morey is the savior everyone claims he is. this is the year to do it since i'm just excited there is a season so the result won't matter to me as much.

The Clippers are the Clippers because they have terrible management and ownership. I trust Morey (and Les) with a rebuilding effort.

Scared of being a perennial cellar dweller is a scared of your GM. Do you believe your GM will take Wesley Johnson or DeMarcus Cousins? DO you believe he'll take Marvin Williams or Chris Paul? Do you believe he'll take Darko or Melo/Bosh/Wade?

If you're scared of your team having a top pick, then you would want a change in management.

Completely agree. The good thing about the compressed schedule is we'll know Morey's intentions by Christmas. If we're tanking, the vets will be traded before the season begins. Unfortunately, I really don't think they will -- I think they would have hedged some on comments if they were going that way.

Just think, all of us are smart enough to be a winning NBA GM if losing and getting a #1 or 2 pick is all that it takes. How hard can it be!

Sign me up! I suppose I have to figure out how to lose better than 29 other guys, though.

    1) Trade Scola and Martin to bad teams to get potentially good draft picks

    2) Play Patterson and Lee to take their places

    3) Keep Lowry, we have a better chance of drafting SF/PF/C in next year's draft then a good PG

    4) A year of Hasheem/Hill at the C to see what they've got

    5) We may have to let Chuck go, sadly

I hear ya. I think some people hear "tank" and they think that means you tell the players not to play hard....but that's not it at all. You just don't make the moves that are "win now" moves. You don't add that one piece that MIGHT propel you to the 8th seed.

You can lose and still sell tickets. All you need is a gimmick. I say get one of every set of twins that play in the NBA.

I'm not smart enough. I wouldn't know, for example, to take Gasol over Kwame Brown/Tyson Chandler/Eddie Curry. I wouldn't know to take CP3 or DWill when the hype was all Marvin Williams and Andre Bogut. I thought Eddie Griffin was a steal for us.

So it might be easy for you, but I'll fully admit I would be a horrible GM even with a high lottery pick. But I do think Morey's smarter than me in this regards.

Cash in whatever we can for Scola, Martin...

Stockpile picks, do whatever to clear cap room.

Hope we land something good in FA next year.

Now is the perfect time to tank the season.

well, i can tell you that the morey kool-aid is still sitting on my shelf. part of being a good gm is selling the owner on your vision.

It doesn't matter how you dress up a tank thread, it's still a bad idea. The team made too much progress when they finally came together. The team is too close to tank now! We have the perfect mix of youth and vets to make something good happen this season.

Let Morey figure it all out, should we tank. What teams have combinations of expiring contracts and draft picks that would want/need Kevin Martin or Scola?

We're really on the cusp of taking a good step forward but that Chris Bosh-type deal doesn't seem to be there, let alone a Chris Paul or a Russell Westbrook.

Too close? I'll play along for a bit. How do you figure we are too close?

I hate the principle of losing/tanking and look at all of the failed attempts like Minnesota and the Clippers and all of the superstars who never won a ring.

Yeah you probably need a superstar to win but I just the principle of tanking. Maybe it makes me foolish and ignorant but I don't believe a borderline playoff team should just tank.

I was talking to a coworker this morning about Courtney Lee. I think he is a piece that needs to be starting for this team this season. I've always been a big fan of K-Mart, but I think it's time to trade him personally. He can net an expiring contract, a pick, and possibly a younger piece to work with.

I'm not oppose of trading Scola, but I think they should try and hold onto him for this season unless an offer they can't refuse comes up. I think he'll have a bigger impact on the younger guys than say K-Mart.

Guess its not the popular opinion around here, but I'm with you man.

If it weren't for us starting the season so poorly with the Yao experiment and AB fiasco we easily could have been in that 48 win range last year and I really feel like we wouldn't be having much of this tank talk. Especially being a playoff team with the prospect of signing a useful free agent this year AND next year without hurting the core that we already have.

At this point we can only wait and see what the team really has planned, but until its clearly evident we are tanking by actually trading away our quality guys I will continue to be against it.
