1) What part of the GM job is most misunderstood by the fans? 2) What's the greatest challenge as Rocket GM? 3) Why don't you bring us a true backup C?
Yao's status is a waste of question. We already know how he will answer that one. "Yao is showing great progress and is on schedule to be in shape for next season" BAM thats it. O and "we might limit his minutes..."
Yoyo, Does he think we need another big like the Al Jefferson type (hint, hint) ??? Will he match a large offer for Scola?? Does he think that we bring in another veteren center to relieve some mins form Yao?? Is there a need to pick up another sg on the roster as is?
The_Yoyo, are you going to record the conversation and are you going to tell us which question you will ask before the interview?
Are there any deals in the works and what can you tell us about them? So far as player acquistions are concerned, what is your number one priority?
What pieces do you think we need to add to upgrade our defense and be in serious contention for the championship?
i vote for this question as well I think morey has somewhat answered this in the past, saying that a rotation shouldnt be too long, like 10 deep +....i thnk he definitely does feel it's better to go with fewer players to cut back on mistakes.... i think we need to combine some of these player improvement and depth questions into one. Maybe asking ideally what he thinks a championship roster should be composed of, as in length of rotation, ratio of stars/superstars to role guys, etc.
1) Is there a greater likelihood that we make some kind of roster move to acquire a star player prior to the season or closer to the trade deadline? 2) Do you think it's worth it to add anything to this team unless it is another star caliber player?
Mr. Morey, How important is it for a team with championship aspirations to have a lockdown wing defensive stopper? Who are those guys in the league right now, and who on our roster has the potential to become one of those guys? Thank you for your time. And thanks Yoyo--awesome thread.
Can't you just ask Mr. Morey to log on to Clutchfans.net and answer whatever questions he can directly. It will be faster.
How valuable is the relationship between GM and coach? How much input do you garner from Rick about the possibilities of acquiring a player (the acquisitions of Martin, Artest... possible acquisition of Miller)? Vice-versa, you've said that one of Adelman's biggest attributes as coach is adaptability, have you ever let your input seep over into on-court strategy, i.e. when you acquire a player who you think possesses certain attributes, do you tell Rick here is what our team of talent evaluators and statisticians think he does/could do well and this is how he could best be deployed?
Okay... here's mine. How much advancement do you think there has been in recent years on setting a statistic value on defense? Is it better to have defensive players or a defensive system (or a combo of the players making the system)? What specific characteristics do they find are most significant in a draft pick?
- Daryl, are you comfortable with Taylor backing up Martin at the 2, or is Budinger a better option as the first 2 off the bench? - What is our best defensive option at the 2 off the bench, and do you think we'll see a stronger Kevin Martin, with a big improvement from Kevin on defensive end this season?
1) The Rockets have mentioned that PatPat was rated number six on their board. Who was your next highest rated player left on the board when the Rockets picked? 2) When you rate players how much of a factor does injury play in that? On paper we have a very talented team but considering Kevin Martin and Yao Ming's injury histories are you concerned this team will never spend enough time on the court together to go deep in the playoffs? Should injuries play more of a factor in your personnel decisions considering our history with Yao and TMac? 3) Since elite player movement in this league is mostly predicated by the draft and player decisions via FA and since it's nearly impossible to win a title in this league without one or two elite level players, is it better to be lucky than good as a GM?
-Is there a TOP player that you think may be available before the trade deadline who may be a good fit for the Rockets. -How much you think Jordan Hills post game has improved. Which current NBA player can you compare Jordan Hill with.
Since everyone has basically covered the basketball related questions: 1) Daryl, how's your basketball game? Do you ever ask for or get tips from your players and staff or are you purely a spectator of the sport? 2) How did you decide to pursue sports management given your illustrious educational background?
Do you think Miami has put a huge target on their back? I mean Lebron is up there saying there going to win 7 plus championships. Do you think there are going to be more superstar alignment and if so do we try to make our own alignment or stay the course? Do you feel like Wade And Bosh are once in a lifetime talents. And do you see the Heat trio becoming a dynasty? Do you feel Bosh was wasting are time and knew he was going to Miami the whole time? Do you feel like the Heat trio was for the Glitz and Glamour or was it about winning. If and when this Trio fails. how far behind is this going to put the heat back? They have no picks for like six years. And they are broke. Do you really think talented players are going to take millions of dollars in wage cuts to play with these guys?
-If you had a son, would you want him to marry Patrick Patterson? -The team appears to have favored skill/atheleticism over size in recent years and has had good results. However, often it seems last season that the Rockets would have been better off in some spots with a true 7 foot big. Am I delusional in thinking that sometimes a team just need some Aaron Gray-type ogre?
1. How big off a role does your staff play in the decision making process when acquiring free agents and draft picks? Particularly Sachin Gupta (creator of the trade machine and fellow MIT man) can you speak more about him, and his role please? 2. Is Yao Ming a realistic trade piece? Or is the business and the player just to big to give away? 3. How effective do you think Yao Ming and Kevin Martin will be together?
